I just bought a Line6 HD147. It's 300 watt solid state head and you can change the Ohm setting between 4, 8, and 16. It came with a Crate 4X12 which is rated at 120 watts. I have a Line6 Spider cab that is rated for 150watts. My question is, what exactly does the Ohm setting do? And should I get a higher rated cabinet so i dont damage the 2 that I have? I need help guys. When it comes to amp stuff im lost.

Thanks,
Tom

300 watts is a huge amount of wattage...
Get a 6x12 or an 8x12, or better, sell it to someone and get a tube amp.

Well there are 4x12 300 watt rated cabinets but I just to know if I need one or will one of the cabinets I have be fine. The Crate I have is rated at 120 and the Line 6 at 150. The head is a stereo head too. And if I get a 300 watt cabinet will it be louder than running the Amp through a low rated cabinet?

make sure the Ohm setting on the head matches the ohms of the cab.

First of all, I enjoy deathcore for it's complexity and it's the only genre heavy enough for me

I want an amp good for playing hippie tunes. I want it to be an actual amp, not a tube amp.

I've never heard the head so I can't comment, but damn those heads go new for $1,250!!??! Insane

Tom, the cabs you have now should work. Just make sure the ohms match up.

Guys, stop generalising. HD147's arent bad amps, its only the Spiders that suck. I played a HD147, and it sounded decent, granted i didnt spend too long on it.

As said, make sure the ohms match up, or you could seriously damage your amp/cab.

You might want to sell the cabinet, and get a nice 2x12, or save up for a higher quality 4x12. If you like it though, then thats all that matters. Im not sure whether your cab is loud enough, though im sure it'll be fine at low volumes. Just dont crank it until you find out for sure.

I love the head. It has the sounds I was looking for. And yeah they are over $1,000 new but i got this and the crate cab together for $500. The guy needed money bad and he bought the amp new for $1000 so he knew what it was worth. I just dont want to damage my head but since I know that as long as the Ohms match up, Ill be fine. I just dont want to blow either cabinet up by overloaded it. Ill probably use the Line 6 cabinet until i get some money to buy a higher watt rated cabinet.

Hell yea, that's what I'm talking about. I love the deals you can get from this effed up economy . Half price with a cab. Nice! Reminds me of my fender metalhead amp. $1800 for the halfstack and I got it for $600.

DiizZ - I wasn't generalizing. I know nothing about Line 6 amps. I just thought it was an outrageous price for a SS head and was hoping that TS got it for much cheaper which he did. Don't really care what forums say. Whatever sounds good to your ears is what you should go with

And Tom, I agree with DiizZ advice. You might want to sell them both and get a nice 2x12, possibly an Avatar? Or a 4x12 cab with higher wattage.

Bit curious, but was this the ad that you bought the amp from:

http://baltimore.craigslist.org/msg/1238635432.html

If so, he also had a mesa cab for sale. You should check into that..

Hmmm either a lot of people in your area are selling that head or that guy dropped the price big time!!

If I were you, I would put up a WTB ad or trade the two cabs for one really good one. Or just run a search for cab on CL. Just a thought

Yeah that was the add. I picked it up last Thursday. He ended up keeping the Mesa. He said he dropped the price because he wasnt getting any e-mails about it. He first put it up for $900 then dropped it to 750, then 600 then 550 then for the 500 i got it for. On the Line6 website it says the Line6 412VS 300 watt cabinet is the cabinet that comes with the half stack combo. I'll probably trade or sell both the cabinets for a good 4x12 that can handle the 300 watt stereo.
