This.

I myself wouldn't get one, but if you like it get it.
bands/artists I've seen: Protest the Hero, LIGHTS, Andrew Bird, Flight of the Conchords, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, Between the Buried and Me, Guthrie Govan, Cynic, The Devin Townsend Project, Scale the Summit, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Darkest Hour

I actually have a Spider III. I think it is a pretty good set up, especially for 75 (Is this in dollars or euros?).

I don't feel the crunch is that great, but I just ended up getting a Boss DS-1 for my crunchy needs.

have one, good for practice, after a while you notice how digital it sounds and you quest for a tube amp
#11
Vox Valvetronix
Roland Cube
IMO

get a vypyr

This. Better effects/more effects/2 parameters (vs. Spider's 1 per effect)/better amp models/transtube/less digital sound/more realistic overdrive/etc etc etc.

But it is really up to you, the buyer. I would go for the Vypyr every time, but that's just me. Make sure you try out any amp that catches your fancy. When it comes to onboard effects, the Peavey Vypyr and Vox Valvetronix both are similar to the Spider, and there should be those two in similar wattage. Try all three out before you decide on one.

You're not truly playing guitar unless you know theory.

Buying a Spider 3 = Worst decision you can make in your entire life.

Even marrying a psycho ranks as a better decision (at least you get to have the sexxor).

Would I recommend it? Not really. I'd listen to these guys and check out the Vypyr (spelling) and the Vox valvetronix, or the roland cube. The Line 6 Spider amps aren't as good compared to other modeling amps available. Not to say that all Line6 Gear is bad; they do make some very very good stuff, such as some of their pedals and whatnot. Just not the spider amps. It's like Marshall with the MG, or Fender with the Frontman.

Ok. So brand new you can get a that Spder III for $270 usd
Spend an extra 100 and get a BlackHeart. It will be a good decision. Unless you like the Spider III's tone.

I have never played on one. So meh...
#29
no, i got one when i wanted to "upgrade" everyone said it was a nice amp when it came out, myself being in Germany where they don't believe in music stores took the advice. horrible. insane sounds like a trucker taking a muddy dump.

My friend has a Line 6 Spider III 15 and I will stay far away from that horrible thing. I am still a newb when it comes to guitar gear but this thing.... it just sucks. He can't even get a warm tone from it. It's either too low and or too high. (maybe he cant set it or IDK).
#31
Get a used Carvin combo. They're cheap and kick the bajesus out of all the other amps listed as far as tone goes.
Gear:
Fender American Strat
Washburn Idol
Pitchblack > Cst OD > M5 > Flashback Tripple Delay > SIZE=1]Whirly Verb
Marshall JCM 2000 DSL100
Marshall 1960AV
