Is it possible to mod an amp to get it to take kt77s? I want to use them in my bugera 6262

According to this page (http://www.zzounds.com/item--BUG6262) the amp is

Hand-built 120-Watt amplifier driven by 4 x 6L6 valves (convertible to EL34)

And according to thetubestore.com:

They use the same base and biasing as any EL34 tube so they are a great option for substitution in any EL34 amp.

So yes. =]

Most 6L6 driven amps can take EL34's since they are both octal tubes (with the exception of Peavey-type fixed bias amps), which in turn allows the amp to be able to take KT77's, KT88's etc.

Most well-designed amps will allow for any octal power tube. An example is any amp from Peters.

the BUgeras can take KT77s in them. the Kt77 is an EL34 type tube. i run these in my 6262 head. the Bugeras can take either 6l6s or El34 types(EL34s, E34ls, and KT77s)

just make sure your bias switch is on the El34 spot. the bias needs to be in between 34-38mA. i ve been running these in my 6262 for a few months now and LOVE them. its the best of both worlds. the El34 agressive punch with the lows of the 6l6s! great tube

im still trying to figure out how to run kT66s and Kt88s in there. the tube spaceing in too close together in these amps to allow running Kt66s and kt88s cause the tubes are too wide that they would touch each other

Could you just run 2 tubes at 60 watts? That would leave enough spacing, they won't have the low end punch like the 120 watts though....

you can run 4 Kt77s no problem at all since they are a El34 type tube

i think if you run half power(60 watts) you need both tubes to run side by side in the middle sockets...so 2 Kt66s prob wouldnt work...but i could be wrong. you might be able to run 2 Kt66s in the out side sockets and run 2 6l6GCs in the middle sockets. would give a nice tone. email the guys at Eurotubes.com about the KT66s and KT88s in the BUgera amps. they will help you out with this question way more then me. they love to talk tubes..haha

Bugera say you have to mod the amp. Not sure what they mean and how you would go about it, but a 6262 and kt88s would be particularly brutal.

you would have to clip off the tube clips that are on the amp for one and prob swap a fuse or something. the KT66s would work after that...but the KT88s are whole other story
