So, I've been shopping around for a new amp lately and had my eye on the Vox AC4TV. My dad wants me to get something that will be loud enough to gig with and I don't think the vox will cut it unless I got a speaker cab. So, just now I found some Crate v18s on eBay, and it seems like it will fit the bill for my sounds, but I just need to know, will it be loud enough to gig?
Thanks.

It should be loud enough, IDK if you will have enough clean headroom though if you play really clear cleans. Get a V33 if you're super worried about it though.

Rock, blues rock sound. The hardest rock I'll probably be playing is Hendrix. I'll have money loft over if I need a boost or overdrive.

About how much headroom does it have, just out of curiosity.

I don't know for sure... I've never actually played that amp.. I'd wait for someone else's opinion who has.

I own it and it has quite decent headroom. For really large gigs though? Nah. For pub sized gigs, yeah enough headroom.

Go for the V-18, or 33. The Vox is not loud enough to gig with (speaking as an owner). All you need to do with the 18 watt at least is get a decent speaker. At the price the V-18 goes for that shouldn't be too much of an expense. The V-18 stock just sounds too spongy because of the speaker. With the 33 you'll be fine for headroom, if you're being miked up then you're laughing.

Also, thumbs up to your Dad for being supportive enough to spend more money. The fact he wants you to get something giggable is great encouragement.

My dad was the same way with my MG.

The V18 will be loud enough for pub size gigs. You can always mic it up later.

I'm watching some youtube videos of the V18, it sounds awesome, but I can't try one out because they're discontinued.

Hit him in the face with it, see if he thinks anything is wrong with it then.

What is your budget anyway? Can we assume you will be selling your Frontman? I think a used Peavey Classic 30 would be just the ticket.

That doesn't mean shops still won't stock them! Just that they are no longer being made.

Yeah my parents are the same way. But you know they probably are right. How many non guitarists would notice much of a difference between a POD and a true amp, or a MG and a JCM?

Stupid me, I didn't give you guys a budget. My budget is $300. I could sell my frontman possibly, and I could sell my digitech rp350 (I should have just put that $350 in savings ). Anyway, I browse craigslist alot, but all there ever is for sale is starter gear, so I'd have to go with ebay. How much do you think I could get for my frontman and RP350?

Definitely. Get a classic 30/50 if you can find them. They are great amps.

I originally wanted one of those for sure, but literally 4 different deals on them fell through and so I settled on mine. My V18 is also heavily modded (new speaker, changes to the circuit, changes to the transformer, new reverb tank, etc.) so for 250 it was a pretty good deal.

Yeah, I'm getting these. The ValveKing is really cool, I might email or call him. Also still really interested in the Classic 30. The Blues Jr. is nice too. So many choices!
EDIT: I'm not really interested in modeling amps, even the really nice ones. Sorry, they're just not my thing.

Fair play, but even the UG elite would give up a kidney for a Vetta.

The $300 Classic 30 is a good deal, as well as the V50.

I know, not only that but I don't think I could haggle him down to around $350-300.

So would the ValveKing be better for rock and roll? It's REALLY tempting because it's $50 cheaper than the Classic 30 and its 50 watts.

That. The HRD and the Classic are both great deals too, but the Vetta is pure sex from Line 6.

The Valveking isn't even close to as good as the Classic 30. Get the Classic 30

-Silvertone Kentucky Blue
-MXR CC Delay
-Ibanez TS-9
-Egnater Rebel 20
-Avatar 1x12

As much as I might get flamed for this, DONT get the Classic! It is a nice amp and all, but the Convertible can do so much more and is just better overall IMO. Give it a serious look at least.

Also, don't think about the valveking because it is cheaper and louder.

Lol, nice. Thank you for keeping in it that it's not in a gay way.

I was talking to this guy over the phone at a local music store he's telling me to stay away from both amps because they will vibrate themselves to pieces. So, now, I'm going down there to try out amps and get some more info.
