the ball had bounced in the mid-court
you thought, you thought
you thought the ball had bounced in the mid-court
but you were wrong

if the ball had climbed over the net
then I guess that your move would have been next
but what you thought and what it was were
unfortunately very different

and it was the turning point that occured
that afternoon

in the mid-set interval you were sipping on lemonade
but still playing the game, the game
with a lick of those sultry lips followed by a rather quick
flick and flutter of the eyelids

and with the resumption of play you were away
still playing the game, you thought
but you'd bought all those tricks from her trade
and you were caught

and it was the turning point that occured
that afternoon, and that afterwards
you were spitting venom
came as no surprise

you were given the eyes

even the promise of a cream tea
does nothing for me

the ball had bounced in the mid-court
or so you thought, or so you thought
you thought the ball had bounced in the mid-court
or so you thought, until it was caught

by those eyes
by those eyes

by those eyes

'that afterwards you were spitting venom
came as no surprise'
the emphasis here wasn't on the right words, and because of what's before it you were led to read the first line here like it was the main point of the phrase, which was offputting.

I love the rest of this
