Does anyone have any advice on starting to use jazz chords into other styles besides Jazz.
Mainly your 6,Maj7,Maj9,6/9 chords.
I'm having a hard time makeing those chords sound like anything other than Jazz.
Really want to see if they can be used in more like Rock styles.Im sure they work in Classical, flamenco. But Rock?
Some advice would be appreiciated.
Thanks

Check out some Dream Theater tabs - they use a load of extended chords.

DT uses lots of chords that are more exotic than just your simple major or minor chords. But then again when you are playing a ridiculous solo over it, it doesn't matter too much what chord you use for a backing .

Anyways, use some heavy distortion and those 9th chords will sound good if they are used in a good progression.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.

I hear how Min7,9th, 7th work and extensions on chords and use those.
I guess Im specifically asking about 6th,maj7,maj9th type of chords those always sound to Jazzy for me.

Incubus is also a good band to look into for that kind of stuff

Look at Drive, that song is Em7 Em9 Cmaj7 Am7
Quite a lot of their slower/acoustic stuff involves a lot of Jazz chords.

The Police also heavily use 9 chords

Santana uses a lot of 6 chords

RHCP you'll see a lot of 7 and 9 chords.
