I was watching this one interview with mark hoppus and he was talking about a band with 2 bassists but i forgot what it was called
#12
Yeah I always wondered about that. My cousin saw Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten live together, but I don't know if that counts.

Shrum. Two bassists.

try freebass, 3 bassists (mani from stone roses, andy rourke from the smiths and peter hook from joy division) plus a singer and a drummer.

i think mani does lows, andy does mids and peter does highs, in the spectrum of sound

I know there was somebody but I can't think of who.
I do remember one held down the bottom while the other played chords and whatnot.

i seriously can't see the point of 2 bassists.

a rhythm instrument and a melody instrument?

There is no point. It's just twice as many chances to mess up the rhythm of the band.
Unless you're good at bass, then you won't be messing up.

I agree with this. Bassists are typically more rhythm-conscious, so there would actually be less problems than having two guitarists.

Look up Necromantia. They're a black metal band that has one bass doing rhythm and an 8 string doing leads. Not too bad IMO.

Unless they actually are bassists and then there won't be a problem. Its bad that most people make 'bassist' synonymous with 'guitarist who sucks but wants to be in a band and thinks bass is "easier", so he plays it'.

I've always thought it sounded just fine, but almost always you can do your bass harmony using just one bass.

The music will be one low loud hum as the bassist uses too much distortion.

But hopefully not.

i think at last year's bonaroo les claypool had a cello in his band. sort of a similar idea and it sounded pretty cool.

EDIT: walk on the wild side by lou reed also uses 2 basses. you can distinctly hear the stand up bass and the electric bass parts, one ascending and one descending.
