I know this is a weird thread topic to make in The Pit...
But I've always loved what people have to say here than in any other forums.

So yeah!

I'm an experienced Windows user and while this is a community dedicated to musicians, I know there are some geeky folks runnin' amuck.

Nowww...
Standards:

I don't want anything that's gonna suck the life out of my RAM or Processor.

I already have ObjectDock and I'm running a custom visual theme(.msstyle).

I'm just looking for stuff to make my computer more interesting and pretty.
And I'm not a HUGE fan of shell replacements, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Feel free to screenshot your desktop if you want, as well.

Thanks guys

EDIT: Here is my desktop

I'm running ObjectDock(Obviously), a .msstyles theme I got off of DeviantArt, that weather docklet you see there is expanded and I have an icon set I downloaded for a program suite called TuneUp Utilities(Which I HIGHLY recommend as a program in the same ballpark as adware cleaners and registry cleaners. It's that and a lot more including a Windows Styler.)

I'd throw a Marshall MG at him while he succumbs to tone killing gain.

Spend all $200 on M&M's, then find a friend with an acoustic, and fill the body with them. Why? Because you can.

Rainmeter.

This is my bad boy. Nothing other than Rainmeter, objectdock and a custom msstyle, except for the CD Art display.

You obviously have never played Bioshock to understand.

The Big Daddy is fine, it's the theme and the iconset that I was referring too.

Lol, dude... windows effects like drop-shadows are too basic.

And all these things are freeware.
As in don't cost a cent.

Besides, if it did, I'd have methods of obtaining it for free.

He quoted the right person. His response was in reference to "Why would you want to pay money for looks?"
They say the old woman's got the wisdom
'Cause she couldn't read the clock anymore
She said "The numbers don't represent the moments"
Says she don't see what all the ticking's for

I grew up with Windows 95 you child.

XP is nice, but it's also hideous by default.

It's not broken, no.
And I didn't say I was fixing it.
It's called personalization and modification.
It's the idea behind modern operating systems.

Besides, Linux Distros and OS X are both much nicer on the eyes.

This man is quite correct. I dislike Vista with a passion.

EDIT: But I get my MacBook in less than a week, and it's sweet, sweet OS X from here on out for me.

You do when it looks like its designed for five year olds

See? That's a nice XP without the fail colours. I expected better from the legendary creepypasta thread TS. I am disappoint. (PS Plz bump that or make a new one. I have never had so much fun shitting brix)

EDIT: And Ubuntu's fuck ugly until you mod it.

So you want to make your computer slower just for eye candy?

I really don't see what's wrong with the colors. Every man has an opinion.

INCREMENTALLY slower. Incrementally. That's what the first post is trying to convey.
#25
Not trying to spam, but what is peoples obsession with all that stuff? As soon as i got Vista, i turned off all the eye candy putting it into max performance, disabled the energy saver in the power options and pretty much went back to the classic XP theme. I have a pretty good PC here (C2Q9400, 4 gigs of ram) but i seriously don't need all that useless glitter clogging up my PC.

Windows XP, SP3
1GB, DualChannel. 667MHz.
So I'm a little limited.
But things like ObjectDock/RocketDock and Rainmeter are perfect.

That's pretty much all you need then. And a gig is a reasonable amount for XP SP3. Personally, I'd stick to whatever you're doing plus rainmeter. Go to deviantart for new stuff. Oh, and this might be a little wtf, but 4chan has a wallpaper and general board that's pretty good, and you get to see interesting pics with what people get up to with their desktop.

I used ObjectDesktop a while ago... I got rid of it though for reasons I can't quite remember...

Aero actually makes your PC run faster because it offloads the GUI from your processor to your graphics card, so your processor is free to do more work. Unless you have a crappy graphics card, that is.
