Which store does the pit like better? Lately I found that Sam Ash is superior around where I live (around Cincinatti/Indianapolis). They tend to have nicer gear and a bigger selection. However guitar center has WAY more accessories (Strings, Picks, etc.) and tend to be of better help. What do you think?

Ma and Pop stores are the best. Better deals, better staff, and you're not contributing to pissing on the little guy.
#6
They're right next to each other where I live, so I usually go to both of them if I want to look, but i prefer Guitar Center for if I want to try out a guitar.
#7
Whenever I say Sam Ash it sounds like an over-enunciated version of the word "smash"

Needless to say, I picked GC

between the two, sam ash. it seems like they actually hire people there who know what a guitar is. but they both still hate bass players. so i choose mom and pop

I prefer to shop at local stores. That way you can actually develop a relationship with the workers.

Here's a story for you then. My bro first started playin guitar 6 years ago and went every weekend up to guitar center(45 mins away). And jammed with a guy and had a great friendship going until he disapeared and got fired a month later. We were out to dinner last week and saw him as a waiter to the table next to us and he recognized him after 5 years!and he was just a customer. Really pretty cool of him and they talked for a few minutes and we left.

sam ash

i would go to guitar center because i like the store more, but its just to far away when i can just walk to sam ash
#15
any local shop ive been too is strictly guitars/bass and drums. i never see any thing for recording and that is the only reason i even go to these gc anymore
#17
vs thread? not reported yet? wow, oh well.

I'd go with Guitar Center, just because their level of douchness is a little lower
#18
Sam Ash employees leave you the **** alone unless you talk to them or ask them about something, or do something stupid.

GC never stops nagging you.

Cool story bro. (Tee-hee)

But honestly, the guitar centers Ive been to have people who nag you a lot, so I got over that. In my local stores, I ask to play something, and then I get left alone. Then I buy something, thank the owner, and maybe talk to them. I saw one of the local guys at a blues festival one time and we talked about the acts.

The GC in Cincinnati is crap compared to the Sam Ash in Cincinnati. I've been to both stores a ton, so I can say this with confidence.

Dude the ****ing Sam Ash in Cincinatti is hands-down the best store i've ever been to and didn't even walk past 1/3rd of the store. The GC in cinci is my favorite GC also.

Me: I need an amp for metal

Sam Ash: You should look at Peavey, Marshall JCM900s, Krate, Krank

Guitar Center: LINE 6 SPIDER 3

Dayton Guitar center ftw. They don't seem nearly as naggy as everyone says.

The one in the mall? I've only been there once when i was first starting out playing and don't remember too much about it except the had Spider IIIs OMFG YES!(I've become more knowledgable) It was probably pretty nice though.

I went to Sam Ash for the first time a week ago or so, it was an amazing experience. The store was a lot bigger, had more things, and despite the fact that it had less employees, they actually seemed like they enjoyed being there. I saw a kid asking about modeling amps in both stores; at GC it seemed like they would just show you what you asked and go, "ooh, and it has all these cool effects!" but at SA the employees would explain the difference between modeling amps and regular amps and the pros and cons to both.

After the bass specialist saw me in aw with the Spector and Hartke I had to explain to him that I had never played either before because I had only been to Guitar Center stores. It was nice, we had a wholesome conversation without the expectation that I was going to buy something.

for those curious; I'm talking Cleveland Area, GC regular being in North Olmsted Mall, GC other and Sam Ash being in Mayfield/Beachwood Mall.

that sounds magical.

at the GC i go to i will only talk to the manager. he actually knows what he's talking about and doesn't pressure me to buy a thing. if he's not there i ask him when he works that week and come back on one of those days. so iunno whats better.
