So, I'm compiling a list for myself (and fellow metalheads) of metal festivals, including their country, time, etc. So, list off any known metal festivals here. Also, discuss any metal festivals you have been to (I haven't been to any, not even Ozzfest =\)

Ozzfest - Early July to late August - USA/UK (nationwide)
Hellfest Summer Open Air - Late June - France (Clisson)
Wacken Open Air - Late July to late August - Germany (Wacken)
Mayhem Fest - Early July to mid-August - USA (nationwide)
Bloodstock Open Air - Mid-August - England (Walton-upon-Trent)
Maryland Death Fest - Late May - USA (Maryland, Baltimore)
Download Festival - Early June - England (Leicestershire, Donington Park)

ozzfest was cancelled this year. :[

Ya, Ozzfest has been a real let down recently. Restricting it to 2 dates previously. Bleh =\

How could you forget Download? Seriously.

That's exactly why I started this thread .

EDIT: And this is for annual festivals, Sonisphere looks like it's more of a tour. If they have a follow-up in 2010 then I'll list it here.

and the lack of good bands (2008 really sucked)
Other planes lie beyond the reach
Of normal sense and common roads
But they are no less real
Than what we see or touch or feel

Festival I've been to are:
-Rock Am Ring (5 times to be Exact)
-Download (only twice)
-Sonisphere (yesterday)

All of which classify as metal festivals.

Brutal Assault

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

Not to mention the Deathfests that seem to be cropping up all over the country, ranging from good to crap.

Summer Breeze always struck me as a decidedly un-brutal name for a metal festival, considering the name is often what ropes in the kiddies. Bloodstock. Metal Camp. Day of Darkness. And, er, Summer Breeze. Summer Hurricane? Summer Drought? That would shift more tickets.
#20
DeathFeast
HellFest
MaryLand Death Fest
Damnation Festival
London DeathFest

There's tons.

Sounds like a song off John Travolta's Grease

Edit: Should Download even be promoted?

I present to you, my country's only international music festival, Metalcamp: http://www.metalcamp.com/, for the past couple of years its been at the start of July
I went this year for the full week instead of just the weekend and it was awesome even if it did rain every day

the lineup isn't as filled with big names as other festival but theres still plenty of quality stuff (and if not check out the second stage/drink/chill out on the beach), the people are great and the location is downright awesome (especially when you're camping in the middle of the forest )

Aalborg Metal Festival, Denmark. 3 days in the beginning of november.

Not a very big festival, but they have had some large metalnames like Opeth, Chimaira (although they cancelled), Illdisposed and Dark Tranquillity

Metalcamp is the only festival I've ever heard consistently good reviews, and in an ever increasing capacity at that, too.

Too bad I'm too broke for this summer...
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.
For unrivaled obedience, user King_ofKumbucha is awarded this spot of honor.
