Anyone have any recommendations? Even just throw out some pedal names so I can check em out.

I'd say keep it under $300 or so...

I want to be able to do anything from a subtle blues compression to ultra compressed...

I have a Keeley 4-knob. It certainly is possible to dial in a very wide range on it. I almost took it out of my chain for my Jazz amp once I put some Lace Drop & Gain pickups in my Parker, but I persevered in playing with the settings, which are completely different from those when I use my PRS through the same chain, and it sounds quite wonderful now.

I found the Keeley a bit dull in the high end so I would recommend one of these since it supposedly fixes that problem. Just get the 3 knob version, small or large. You could even get the Mini Bi-Comp since it doesn't have a waiting list like the big one.
