I've been trying different playing styles in my improvisations, but everytime i start one it ends up sounding more like blues than say like rock and such.

If you have any tips or help it would be appreciated.

Listen to and learn a lot of songs from different genres.

It was the only task I would undertake...

I have the same problem. Though I've been able to break it slightly because I'll play for a bit, then get all effectsy. Also, Ill play more stuff not that isn't pentatonic. I think I play bluesy because I barely no enough theory. Try to play on more of the fret board, try not to hit more than one note at a time, learn more theory.
