Sorry for another Swine Flu thread, but here goes.

The area I live in is apparently a 'high risk' area.
I live around 3 miles from where the Essex hospital where a recently healthy man died [link] .
My Aunt across the road from me has just been diagnosed with Swine Flu today.

Please note that I have 'mild Asthma' [only effects me during exercise], but I'm completely healthy otherwise.

Should I ignore all the hype and treat this like normal flu [ie ignore it and treat as media hysteria], or should I lock myself away?

Normally I'd dismiss it as normal flu [which kills more people anyway], and as I reckon I had normal seasonal flu twice [well, at the very least once] since the beginning of this year with nothing unusual, I don't think swine flu will be any worse.

With more healthy people in the UK dying, I'm wondering if I should believe the hype.

So yeah, the point of this thread is: Should I believe the hype about swine flu or should I ignore it?

I'd usually be skeptical but with the slight asthma you can't be sure. If it were me, I'd call my G.P and go through the details etc.

Anyway just take some Lemsip and you'll be fine.

No, but I don't think I want to.

Hopefully I won't catch it.
If I did, I'd probably treat it as normal flu [Lemsip, etc.].

Well, any Swine Flu patients are told to stay indoors and phone up for medical advice, and then they have to get someone to deliver the Tamiflu.

I mean, with all the reports of healthy people dying, and living where I am, I am starting to wonder.

You might want to go call your doctor, and not go in, but just ask him this same question.

most of the people who have been reported of dying of it (at least in the US and Mexico) have died of other things, theyve just put it down to pig flu because it had similar symptoms

I've heard what the doctor's are saying around here.,
Basically, if you have it, stay indoors, if not, do what you want.

I don't have it and hopefully I won't.
But it's still pretty unnerving with what's being said. My chances of getting it appear to be very high .

I just want to know if I should ignore the hype or not.

I kind of understand what you mean.. as us arrogant UGers writing it off as media frenzy (which I believe it us), when it does actually effect you with someone catching it within your family or the like, scepticism does prevail..

but seriously, I don't think you've got much to worry about.. until you are actually diagnosed with it, try not to fret to much.. you'll be stressing over ifs and buts as opposed to actual happenings..

^ No thanks

Yeah, I think it's overreacting.
Just play it safe.

Although, if I stop posting on UG, then it's clearly not a media frenzy.

Real solution: Never leave the Pit.

If you're on here you aren't out there catching viruses.

Loads of people have it at my school. They stopped sending people home, someone even came to the nurse with it (they didn't know it at the time, but found out soon after going to to doctors) and she said to go back to class because it wasn't serious.

Also, ^^ That is probably the reason I don't have it yet
wen i ask they say that they fall into the habit smhw ........but nyways i think there is a connection smwhere. Now i being a teetollar will not give into this habit nyhw

FOR JUST £2 A WEEK, YOU CAN PREVENT THIS.

Yeah, the local schools have had a few outbreaks.
Nothing serious so far though.

I guess the solidifies the hype, right?
