From blue blanket to black tapestry
This mystical mystery
It shows us the limits
Of where we'll never be

---Untitled---

an asteroid belt of oranges surrounds this mother Earth
sailing above a pastel peach dress made especially for her,
some break free of her gravity and shoot up into the clouds
which lightly stroke the air like smoke blown from her mouth;
these clouds are figurines of ships and islands in the sky
and as they rise they show the sunset and the blue combined

but she sighs deeply and stares through all these colours
that have been engraved into her eyes to convince her that they're there
and she sees a universe of nothing out within the gloom
that calls to her eternally, calls "come home and see the truth",
but she's locked into these rocks, caged between each molecule,
and mother Earth can never return to her own womb.

---bullets in the sky with astronauts---

There’s only a few things in this world
that can make a person feel insignificant.
It’s a proven fact.
There’s a spaceship orbiting Earth,
he’s using up 10 billion dollars of our money each day,
but even he feels baffled.
There’s a sheet of blue or a bed of black,
a fiery overload or dulcet temptress.
Sometimes it rides great woollen beasts,
driven with wrath or stroked sweetly.
There’s only a few things in this world
that can make a man cry,
but when the sky couldn’t support your flight,
there was only one conceivable finale.
Hello ground, be my friend

Take a deep breath
and look up
past the rooftops
past the trees
and see in the darkness,

See the clouds
drifting silently and peacefully

Now look down
and the magic is lost
to the glow of the TV creeping its way outside
and the sound of my pen
clawing its way across the paper
searching endlessly
for what?

look up again
at those same clouds, still wandering
with infinite patience
to find wherever it is that they are going
the stars wink playfully
teasing me
tegging me to come join them

Now when I look up,
there is no deep breath
no worrying about getting lost up there
and not being able to find my way back
I don’t care anymore
I’ll get lost on purpose
and only pretend to try to find my way back home

and down here, there is still the burning glow of the florescent lights
burning my eyes until I am blind
the scratch of the pen feels like it is scratching across my eardrums
I don’t like it down here
so I look back up
and intend to never look back down again

---Sailors Take Warning---

Erin and I had curled up on the hillside,
looking to the sky and sculpting clouds into
animals and plants and beer bottles and faces.
She was the first friend I'd had in years.

But the sun became angry,
dropped his shoulders and burnt the sky dead;
"you'll never take me alive"
and he meant it.

I saw a cloud that looked like New York City;
and the fire grew closer and closer and closer
until all the little people in the cloud
shrieked, cried, gasped, moaned.
Silence.

"Erin, my imaginary friends all died."
Silence.

She lay lifeless in my arms.

---Dorian Gray Syndrome---

My mother’s old camera hangs around my neck
Scouring the shapeless sky
Nudging me awake as the wind picks up
Focused on the best spot to lie

Abrasive sun beams silhouette my flaws
Leave nothing alluring for your once-over
At second glance, blurred scenery consumes me
It’s just the nature of exposure

Bloated clouds keep the observant away
And to me, the distance is kind
With a profile that’s dead space at best
My close ups are art for the blind

But when the overcast shadows shower the ground
All life’s shallow masks long since drowned
I’ll welcome each drop to cleanse my sorrow
Make me picture perfect until I wake tomorrow

Abrasive sun beams silhouette my flaws
Leave nothing alluring for your once-over
At second glance, blurred scenery consumes me
It’s just the nature of exposure

But the world runs a mile a minute
Without ever growing weary
Harboring eyes that don’t care
For what they can’t see clearly
The cost of life ever expands, leaving
Simple cloud watchers to suffocate
So I’ll save my breath for the mourning sky
Because I can afford to wait

Ahh man...I hate mine. Why am I in the group with all the good ones?
Today I feel electric grey
I hope tomorrow, neon black
