I recently bought an Epiphone Valve Junior Head.
I play lots of bluesy stuff and for a little overdrive ive got my Bad Monkey.
But sometimes I need a beefier, metal type sound, so Im lookin into distortion pedals.
Which one do you guys recommend?
Or would a tubescreamer be enough to get a nice metal rhythm tone?
Ive got a graphic eq btw.
Budget is up to 200$

Thanks

thought the metal muff would be some kind of budget pedal...

btw i dont want to totally destroy the tube sound of my amp.

what about the ZakkWylde Overdrive by MXR?
Is it able to handle metal on its own?

Why not use the POD for distortion?

Schecter Tempest Classic Goldtop
Ceriatone 18 Watt TMB/EF86 2x12 - Lorantz Greenback's

1.The Metal Muff is about 75-80 bucks, so kind of.

2.Not by it self, but maybe ZW + bad monkey as clean boost + OD channel.

The ZW Pedal is kind of noisy btw, so a NS-2 or ISP Decimator or something might be a good investment.

Don't let the Digitech name put you off to the Hardwire, look up a demo of one on youtube, they sound good.

This is a possibility, but MulitFX distorition =/= seperate pedal distortion.

i got a glx noise gate from a friend of mine so noise wouldnt be the problem...
btw the Epi VJ doesnt have an overdrive channel thats why Im lookin into some kind of heavier stomp boxes

I possibly could use the line 6 but thats not what i want.
I use it with my old solid state combo and my PA and I bought the epiphone for a more "tubish" sound

I don't have any personal experience with these, but I would check them out, they are all higher gain distortion pedals:

Joe Satriani Satchurator

V2JH Jekyll and Hyde Overdrive and Distortion

T-Rex Alberta Distortion Pedal

Fulltone GT-500 FET Distortion + Booster and Overdrive

Have you tried the POD? You should be able to get good results from it by only using the distortions.

First of all, I enjoy deathcore for it's complexity and it's the only genre heavy enough for me

I want an amp good for playing hippie tunes. I want it to be an actual amp, not a tube amp.

He's got a Pod X3 Live in his sig... Use that.

I agree. although i don't care for all the distortions in my POD, coupled with the amp models there is alot of great stuff to be found using a POD with a Vj. In addition, Vj's are in about every GC around here. Plug in a few different pedals and see what you think.
