I recently purchased a beautiful near-mint condition JEM7RB. After reading into the RootBeer Series I learned how rare they are. Few were ever made, and they were made only between 1988 and 1989. . .

. . . however the serial number on my JEM is a 1987 serial number. I'm sure there is some ridiculously simple explanation, any help you guys?

Also, does anyone know the value of the guitar?

Ah, I should have been more specific. All parts are original, right down to the manual that came with it.

ibanez does not record serial numbers and chances are that it was made in `88.

what generally happens is neck plates are put into a big bucket and factory workers just pull the out randomly which means `87 `88 neckplates could all be in the same bucket.

that is the abbreviated version from ibanez....congrats on becoming a jem owner.

this website will help you.....www.jemsite.com....loads of info there but the RB was definatly in production only in `88 and `89..... http://www.jemsite.com/articles-menu/jem-specs-7-guitars/..... more details about your axe on this page

Oh I know all about the Rootys and how rare it is, this baby is my dream come true. I have no intentions of ever selling it, I'm just curious to know how good of a deal I got for it. Right now she's at my studio, but I'll get pictures soon
