what does that mean ?
Im looking to upgrade my bridge pickup on my strat with dimarzio virtual solo pickup
and a lot of reviews state that switching out 250k tone pot for 500k makes the pickup sound much better..

i have absolutely no clue what that means... is it doable by myself ?
what do i need ..tools ..what to buy ?

My guitar is 2008 american deluxe strat
Guitars:
Fender American Deluxe stratocaster 2007
Takamine EG340

Amp:
Orange OR 15

The pots are your volume/tone controls. I think Strats come standard with 250K. All you have to do is go to a guitar store (avoid GC like the plague) and tell them you are switching out one of your pots to a 500K.

The best thing to do would be to look at the pot you are going to take out, draw the wires that are connected to it right now so you don't forget then take your old pot out and take it with you to the store. You will mostly likely need quarter sized pots.

Edit: It isn't 100% necessary though.
What you'll need.
1. Wrench to get the nut off the top after you pull the knob off.
2. Soldering iron
3. Solder

That's the best discussion (that's to the point) that I've read.

If the DiMarzio you're putting in is going to be hotter than the old single coil then 500K will sound better.

It's just a small detail though. If your ear is good enough, you'll notice the difference but most non-players wouldn't have a clue if you went from a 250K to 1 meg.

Some people mix and match 250K pots with 500K pots or 500K pots with 1 meg pots. I THINK you'll want to swap out the pot that controls the bridge tone so nothing else gets affected. Might want to wait for someone else to confirm.

Remember, you don't have to do this either.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, cuz I probably am....But...

The Bridge Pickup on a Strat does not have a tone control....At least a standard strat...

If you're right, I didn't know that. Never owned a Strat and don't much care for the 1 vol/2 tone.

Actually, I just read up on Fender's website, and the 2nd tone controls BOTH middle and bridge (that's why I deleted the post)....Think it's a new feature. My 2002 it only controls the middle...

2001 MIM Standard Strat

Yeah, I did some searching and saw old threads on other forums about people wiring up just a tone control for the bridge or to mix it with the middle.

OP, what year is your strat. We'll have to research diagrams to find out.
