Title didn't mention they were crappy phone pics. But they are pics.

Now I know you're thinkin: "WAT? Thought Grizzly made tools?" Well, they make a bass kit too. 'Bear' with me [/bad pun]

Solid alder body, rear rout control cavity...and pics

Maple neck with rosewood fretboard, angled headstock for 2 and 2 tuners

Mock togetherness

All hardware included
Pickups are supposedly humbucking, dunno the tonal quality at all so we'll find out after a while. It's gonna take some time for updates, the drillpress hasn't been used in 2 years and needs a tuneup, and I need that to do just about everything except finishing, which needs the holes drilled.

Definitely gonna need some help with specifics on finishes. I KNOW, there's a sticky. Project guitar doesn't seem to have all the specifics I need, it sends you to a dead stew mac link for the detailed stuff. I'm thinkin I'm gonna stain the wood with some color minwax stain, sand it back to make the grain pop, and clear coat it with semi-gloss. Sound legit?

If it's impossible to see, imagine the Schecter c-4 headstock. Cause I pretty much printed out a scale pic and traced it.

Instructions to the bass said to not have the pegs closer than 3/4" to edge, but this design doesn't conform to that. I figure its ok though; anyone disagree with me?

Yea sounds good. I'll probably cut the shape roughly with a jigsaw tomorrow after work (perhaps tonight) and tune up the drillpress if I have time, if not it will wait til Thursday.

w00t, glad to see another Grizzly build going on. Was thinking about getting this in the fall to make as an x-mas present for a pall. Definitely gonna follow this.

So far it seems pretty solid, and not having played bass but 7 months or so I won't be the pro opinion you may be looking for. For the $200, it is worth it just by looking at it and holding the neck; a bit thin at the high point but feels nice.

I do like how your build is coming android, and love how the finish of yours looks on the back/neck.

Update: cut headstock rough shape and shaved a bit off, still workin.

I was extremely surprised myself with the inlays, I was expecting dots like the pic in the catalog.

The part where the headstock widens from the nut looks a little too aggressive (if you get that). Maybe you could make it a little smoother, but that's just my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing this progress.

hes going to make the base of the headstock smaller, you can see the pencil marks on it
the inlays are slid on that, beyond what any other company would have on a kit
I play Lacrosse, you should too

heed this man's suggestion, for he is wise.

Oh and wait for the Schecter fan boys, if you listen real hard you can already hear them coming.

fscking awesome dude. looks sick and thanx for the compliment. You know what you want to do color wise?

I will be shaving that down more, probably will be working details on/sanding smooth the headstock tonight since I'm hangin with some friends trying to stay up all night.

No idea really. Was thinking natural finish for the most part, but I'm not sure how to really make the grain pop on alder...think some minwax stain and sanding it back would work?

Update: Drilled 5 holes so far for the tuners
What? 5?

Let's just say I won't be making that mistake twice.

UPDATE again

It is complete!

The only thing I dislike about this assembly (that isn't part of my human errors) It that the nut was much too short. Until I can get a chance to order a new one, I put a piece of a pie pan underneath to raise it up.

I won't be able to finish it this week or next, my money is pretty much stuck in a bank and I have a trip I'm going on with my church the following week

This looks like a pretty worthwhile kit... I think I'd have smoothed the curve on the inside of the upper horn if I was boss... Perhaps attempted a carve like an ESP B.
