Well a week or so ago I was hit with a case of Strat GAS that I could not fight. Didn't have a ton of money to buy one so I figured I would give a Mexi a shot after hearing good things from owners and also learning that Fender made some worthwhile hardware upgrades this year. So today I recieve it and am very happy. The fit and finish is pretty much perfect. Fret work is good and it plays like a dream. I have heard you can get good ones and bad ones, so I must have gotten a good one. It came straight out of the box in tune and perfectly setup. Didn't make a single adjustment. It even sounds pretty nice with the stock pickups. I like having something that encourages me to play stuff other than metal. Should have bought one of these a while ago.

Oh you want pics you say??????????????

Okay.......

Thanks guys. It's a great feeling guitar for real. Not quite a Caparison or Parker, but pretty damn nice. I can't imagine a USA model being worth $700 more.

If that were American, not only would it be the physical opposite of mine, but it is also the kind of strat I want.

Well I got all my mods done today. The thing sounds and plays friggin fantastic. Here are a bunch of pics of what I did to it.
Old nut removed

New nut installed

Old pickguard

Hey somethin's missing

New loaded pickguard

New pickguard installed

Definately like the look of the white pickguard, pickups and knobs better than the original parchment stuff. Looks very Jimi'ish.

Mods were loaded pickguard with Lindy Fralin Blues Specials, CTS pots, Switchcraft switch, etc. = $265. Graphtech Tusq nut = $10. Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners = $55. Swtichcraft Jack = $4. Couple of extra trem springs = $4. So about $330 in mods. Plus the guitar thats $830. I bet it sounds better than any stock $1200 USA Strat you throw at it.

Add tuning stability. Stock the trem was set to float with 3 springs. Now I have it set up to just push down. The extra springs just make it more stable. I set it up as per the directions of Callaham guitars who are one of the best custom strat builders and they recommend running at least 4 springs and not floating the trem for the best tuning stability.
