So I need to pick one from each list:
The Dead Fathers Club by Matt Halg
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Enthusiasm by Polly Shulman
Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson
Nothing but the Truth by Avi
Slam by Nick Hornby

Second List:
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah
Persepolis : The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi
The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult
Slave: My True Story by Mende Nazer and Damien

Maybe someone here has read one or more and can recommend a good one.

Because there's a list to choose from for a reason, it's called school.

I thought it was obvious that these weren't books I was interested in reading considering how most of them obviously suck and nobody's heard of them.

Not that it matters because the lists are in the OP so we don't veer away from them.

...I still don't see the problem here.

When I was in high school, my senior year in AP Literature I refused to read any of the books assigned during the year. I just read Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Kundera. Received a 4 on the AP exam and passed the course with an A.

then what, you told your geometry teacher that you would be turning in worksheets from a Algebra work book instead of the assignments he hands out and got in A in that class as well?

No. I don't understand how mathematics even got involved with this. And even if you somehow found a tie between geometry and Dostoevsky, it wouldn't be that hard to solve. It's not Calculus, it's an elementary building block of something bigger.

Really TS, I'm being sincere with you - none of those books look interesting at all. I know you and I have a different approach to literature as to what is more important, but I can honestly say if I was in your shoes I would read something that I'd find fascinating rather than a list of "must reads" from some assignment that probably is about 5% of your total grade form a person you will never speak with again for the rest of your life let alone remember after a year or two. Do what you will though. This life is too short for me to read dull books and listen to dull music.

#39
Zap, if he wants to do good in the class he has to read one of those books.

secondly, the kite runner is boring
#40
Most of those books are kind of meh. Ender's Game is pretty awesome though. Definitely pick that one.
