Why must we be juveniles and cry about Iraq?
The greatest things Americans have done is never turn back.
Forget about modern warfare, it is a failing tragedy.
We'll never be true heroes, THEY STORMED THE BEACHES AT NORMANDY!

This isn't a play, there is no fourth wall.
This isn't a prop, it's a loaded gun.

But to backtrack, I have no lack of faith;
we're trying our hardest to make the world shake.
It is not our fault that we're not like those men,
we're not behind sandbags with an M1 Garand.

This isn't a play, there is no fourth wall.
This isn't a prop, it's a loaded gun.

My finger is still trembling on the trigger
while his enemy is dead and gone.
I'm going to die and be on TV,
he died for a cause: to keep the world free.

"What does that mean," the child asked.
I was confused when all that came out of my lips was,
"Apparently nothing..."

that was gorgeous. about time somebody sang about iraq and war. the last war song i agreed with was american idiot. (i guess 21 guns is about war, too, idk) it describes just how empty and shallow war is. yet all these conservative idiots seem to think america's the hero in the world. great job. you should get that recorded

EDIT: also, it's a great title don't get me wrong, but what does "the big red one" mean?

Hah, not to be mean, but this is kind of a nationalist song, at least, the urge to return to nationalism. I feel as if I have no reason to give. Anything that we do now is kind of worthless compared to the men fighting in older wars. The Big Red One is the nickname for the US Army 1st Infantry Division.

I suppose you could be on a right track though, I mean, what if we cannot return to being the force we were back in the day? I feel I was born in the wrong era, I have this urge to somehow go back in time and fight for a difference, not just go to another country and police it.

I like that it is OK to be able to interpret the words from many viewpoints.
