These are some new lyrics I wrote. They are still definitely a work-in-progress so any thoughts/constructive criticisms that you may have are greatly appreciated. And of course, if you leave me a link, I'll return the favor.

I Am Brother Jack's Glass Eye

Through the heart of the land, a river of sweat runs
and it should've been dried up by now
Watch how the hellflowers grow 'neath an oblivious sun
blooming into crooked family trees

Watch how the wretched vines are just ready-made whips
slashing the backs of the children's minds
until they're intelligent, 'til they stay in their rightful place,
'til they use tunnel vision to find their way

CHORUS:
Ohhh how long have we spiraled 'round?
since the sun's been getting up
and then laying back down
Since hate has been a heirloom
passed to the branches, from the roots
Since sight has been left to the colorblind
i hope soon,
we'll spiral into truth

In the heart of the land, forests of gallows stand
white ghosts and black panthers dangle there
to be smashed like pinatas with childrens history books
for sweet lessons and venom to fall out

I pray the youth in school, don't have their classes held
in the comfort of their living rooms
I pray when the past is torn, torn apart at its seams
that dirt-laden poisons don't look so sweet

CHORUS:
Ohhh how long have we spiraled 'round?
since the sun's been getting up
and then laying back down
Since hate has been a heirloom
passed to the branches, from the roots
Since sight has been left to the colorblind
i hope soon,
we'll spiral into truth

In the heart of our land, our shovels hit the earth
with four hundred years beating our backs
so are we breaking new ground, or are we digging our grave?
Are we closer to our core or to hell?

yeah, the title has two allusions in it. One of them is the one you mentioned from "Fight Club", one of my favorite movies. The other comes from one of my favorite books, "Invisible Man". There's a character in there named Brother Jack who has a glass eye which signifies the blindness some people show towards race. I thought the symbolism of it fit well with this.

And, as far as the music is concerned, it has an acoustic feel to it. Kinda John Lennon-esque.

the beginning verse had me hooked with your vivid imagery descriptions. the chorus fits well with the flow of the song.

i think what really sold me was your ending stanza. the last two questions leave me wondering about the answers, although not to the point where it's a bad thing. this song made me read it multiple times to decipher a meaning (which I haven't quite grasped, yet).

excellent piece
