I was told about a guitar player from the 1950's who played his guitar on his lap as if it were a pedal steel guitar.

He did a song which mimics the styles of Chet Atkins, Les Paul and various others.

Does anyone know who I'm talking about?

Thanks in advance

the only guitarist i can think of that played his guitar on his lap was jeff healey, but i don't think he's been around since the 50s, so i'm not sure.

yeah that's what most people keep saying.

Granted, I LOVE Healey, but not who I am looking for.

I want to say his name is Thumb, or some other such similar word.

(I heard the song I mentioned before and I believe his name sounds like, or rhymes with, Thumb)
