k guys as always, sorry if this has been done before. I thought it would be a successful idea for a thread. Here's how it's gonna work:

Post the name of a favourite band of yours, or one you'd like more people to listen to. Then, post a couple of the band's most typical or best songs, with Youtube links if possible.

Here's mine:

Slither - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZOzlZXHhpA

Definitely check out Dream Theater. Their songs are quite long but I can't get enough of them. My favorite band by far. Here is my favorite song off of their latest album "Black Clouds and Silver Linings". Just so you know, this song is about 19 minutes long

The Count of Tuscany. This is a rip from the album. There's no video yet.

Next is them playing their song "Hollow Years" at the Budokan Theater in Japan.

Hollow Years

And finally this is "Under a Glass Moon". This song holds the 68 spot on the list of the 100 greatest guitar solos.

Under a Glass Moon. Once again, no video of the whole song so this is a rip from the album.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.

That's good but I like their song Speak When Spoken to better.

Everyone should know of Elton John's work, but I'm sure there are people here who don't. It took me a long time to actually go out and listen to his music, even though I'd been aware of him for years. Elton John and Bernie Taupin (his lyricist) were arguably the most prolific song-writing pair of their time, ranking right up there with John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

He has way to many amazing songs for me to choose the "best" few, so I'll try to list some diverse ones.

If you do not listen to Brand New, your life has cold, gaping hole.

I really like 'Jesus Christ' but can't seem to get into their other songs. Any suggestions of songs more like JC?

And courtesy of UG, I've been enlightened to my current favourite artists. I'm at work but if you're on youtube it's no problem to look these up yourself:

What Makes A Man - City and Colour. This one is a soft acoustic tune with haunting vocals and great lyrics.

Saeglopur - Sigur Ros. You'd have to listen to it, it's so different.

Vacuity - Gojira. My ultimate head-banging song. Play it loud.

I love you, UG.

Bomb the Music Industry! is a indie band. They're punk mostly, but they can do a couple ska songs. They do some acoustic stuffs too. Kind of an unknown band, but still really good.

Ok, I can't find any videos of them that aren't live and sound like crap, so here:

http://www.quoteunquoterecords.com/qur004.htm - It's a full album.

Tool
Has by far become my favorate band as of late. Their songs tend to be on the longer side, but theyre so full of meaning. Their musicianship is outstanding as well. Its metal, but its not "in your face," its more laid back and thoughtfull.

Vicarious Skip to 0:50, the begginings just blank. Video might freak you out a bit.

Sober An earlier piece of work, back when they were angrier.

More people need to discover the glory that is Eternal Lies (Old School Melodic Death):
http://www.myspace.com/eternalliesmusic (I recommend A Memory of Lies and Leaving Only Me)

Also Hanging Garden (Some sort of Finnish Doom Metal):

Closer: More Melodeath, slightly thrashy

Carnal Forge: Melodic Thrash I guess, not too good on genres.
