I went to GC and they didnt have the Ibanez I was looking for so I tried to find something similar, I found this.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Laguna-...382-i1375390.gc

Its as close as I could find. Also the flametop got me hooked.

It has a fat-strat pick-up layout. The pu's are Laguna's own brand. They are Alnico magnets and they have surpsringly good oomph to them, and sound more like a mini-humbucker than an actual single coil, imo at least. They are sort of an off-shoot of those Duncan-Desgined. Basically, theyre a copy of a copy. Hehe.

Normally I dont care for ash, but with the flametop, it balances out very nicely.
I was able to get any sound sound out of this with only a tweak or two of the amp's 2-band EQ (I ran it through a Deluxe Reverb).

I could get any sound from funk to classic rock, from 80's to jangle-pop, all with just the 5-way switch. I didnt even touch the knobs.
It also has a push/pull coil-tap on the tone knob. I could go from a bright clean to southern-fried overdrive, oh yeah! Hehe.

By far this is the best, most versatile guitar I've ever heard, as far as from the get-go initial trial. I'll be trying it over the next few days. If it continues to sound this good, it may just be the one. Who knows?

All of the Lagunas I have tried were nice, but they never really felt right to me. I can't put my finger on it, but they always felt off to me.

Maybe you could supply us with the model of each guitar and your budget? And fix the link in your first post...

The exact models are:

Laguna LE422 (as stated in original post AND thread title)
Ibanez SAS36EXFM (I saw a SAS36 on the Ibanez but not an EXFM, so IDK.)

Here's the links:

i'm not tech-savvy so if it dont work, sorry.

Oh, and my budget is $750 MAX.

Why buy a Laguna when you can buy something better for that money?
I.E. a Strat...Hold on for the link, I messed up first post.

EDIT: Actually, screw Strats, you apparently like the Laguna a lot. Why ask for our opinions? You can just Google reviews and see if they have a reputation for being a let down, which I'm doubting at this point.

Only time Ive seen a true single coil in a chrome humbucker housing was chinese knock off where they claimed it was a humbucker but half the housing was empty.

I know theres several out there that are leaps and bounds better. But only a poor crafstman blames his tools. *something I've learned the hard way*

I've been reading reviews and researching and all. I was just curious what UG thought. I'm probably gonna get it anyway, regardless. I was just curious you dont have to come off as harping on me.

I don't think I've ever heard the term "harping" before but I'm not trying to sound like a jerk. Just kind of weird to have someone request opinions on something they already like.

I have been reading reviews and researching the Laguna Fat-Strat. All the reviews are mostly hit or miss. People either love em or hate em. theres no middle ground. As far as conrstruction, reliability, and durability, people either do or dont. And the ones that think the quality is bad, they wont say why. The pu's arent the best, sure, but other than that, they look fine to me. They say its not durable and that its bad. Well, what makes it bad? the bolt-on isnt done right, or the bridge isnt placed properly or what? what is wrong with it, specifically?

They dont say.

Sure you get a bad one out of the batch every now and again, but is that what theyre refering to? 'cause even Gibsons have a bad one every now and again, very few and far between mind you, but it happens. Just nature of the world, no such thing as perfection. You can get damn close, but not exact every-single-time.

What do y'all think, as far as build quality, craftsmanship, reliability, durability, etc?
And be sure to put WHAT SPECIFCLY the problem is, if any...

This. To me, they feel like an attempt to bring the feel of a Jackson to a lower price guitar but it just felt off to me.

I hear Guitar Center owns the company which is why they push them.

I own a Laguna. They feel very comfortable and do rock and metal easily but i would not recommend buying a cheap Laguna. Get a LE524 it has a floyd rose and Dimarzio pickups it's been recently discontinued but i think it's worth getting if you can find it.

Yes, Laguna is GC's housebrand. but so what?

IMO, they feel colser to an Ibanez, but sound like a Schecter. I dont know if thats the consensus, but thats my opinion anyway.

You say they feel off to you. Off in what way?

I'm not sure. I always thought they feel more like a Jackson, and i've always thought jacksons feel a bit odd to me (probably because of the compound radius).

Ah. So its the feel?

I have a Casino thats a ****ing lemon. Its just that particular one, 'cause the rest I've played are pretty good. I just happened to get the bad one of the bunch.

I'm planning on buying this one pretty soon, (the Laguna LE422). This'll be the last one for at least a few years.
Also, what can I do to make sure that I dont end up turning around and trying to sell it in a few months, like with the Casino?

Well it's never a guarantee with a guitar. I know a guy who owns a few guitars, and he told me that throughout your life you'll just figure out which guitars you like more, and go through a sell/buy process continually. I didn't understand how that worked then, but i do now.

The best thing you can do is make sure you love the way the guitar looks, feels, and sounds, and that it has the specs you want.

Just know you should always be prepared to sell one guitar for another if/when it happens.

Yeah, I learned that the hard way with the Casino. Thats why I'm so scared to get another guitar. I'm too afraid it may be a repeat of "The Casino Incident". Yeah, I nick-name my bad experiences. LOL

This will be my last guitar for about 5 years or so. I'm running out of space, but this should be good enough quality to last me that long, right?
#19
some people have suggested getting a fat-strat, but a better one for around that price ($450).

I'm open to it, what guitars did y'all have in mind?

I guess its the bandwagon thing. IDK.

what do you mean by "not pot metal"? could you explain what you mean?

I currently own one of these (Laguna LE422), the wilk bridge seems crummy (to me at least) it's out of tune constantly even though I don't use the whammy, and it bust strings about once every two weeks.
