Is it possible for me to use a line 6 pod, such as the XT, with this power amp?

and then set it on top of a cab(with the correct ohms of course)

if so what are some good power amps that would go well with a pod?

yep!

and any power amp really, tube is obviously better but there are good solid state ones too. it'll sound much better with just a power amp than running the pod through a guitar preamp.

Yep.

I run my X3 Live through a Randall RT-2 into an Avatar 4x12 and it sounds just as good as most tube amps.

I've not actually used the Fryette. I currently use the Randall. I've tried the Marshall, but it's too $$$ IMHO. My goal when putting the rig together was $2500 or less. Not that $$$ when you consider that it sounds as good as most production tube amps and is alot more versatile.

For a cheaper (non-tube) solution try this. I used this while I saved up for the RT-2 and it sounded pretty good (although not nearly as good as a high-quality tube power amp; but better than running through the power amp of an amplifier:

THe rocktron looks promising, but could I gig with it? most gigs I'll be able to do the amp won't go through the pa since we use it for vocals (its a small pa)

I've gigged with a 15W Blues Jr. (no mic) for 200+ people. Unless you're playing in a stadium or an outdoor fest w/o a PA, 30W will do it.

True, but solid-state power amp designs are substantially quieter when compared watt-for-watt. After all, watts are a unit of electricity, not volume.

100W SS is very roughly comparable to 35W or so of tube power- should be fine.
