I'm looking to upgrade from my Bugera 333XL 212 to something better. It just lacks the crisp, defined distortion I'm after.

My price-range around $2000. But if there's a more expensive head that I could perhaps snag off eBay then feel free to suggest it.

I've had my eye on ENGL's, they all sound incredible. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Mostly heavy stuff such as metal and heavy rock. But I don't want a one-trick-pony, it needs to have some versatility

I can do used depending on condition.

Yeah I'll be getting a cab as well.

You could problably find a Mark IV in your budget, and if stretched you get a Mark V, that is if you don't need a cab.

Well for transportation purposes, I'll be getting a head-only and a quality halfstack or something to go with it.

you can get a Mark with your budget and also look at Titan amps.
they are handmade amps that will cost you about 1200 (1400+ if you want some added features)

and also look at the 6505+,USED Kerry King JCM800KK and the JSX.

Wut?

A half stack is a head+speaker cabinet. You CANNOT run a head without a speaker cabinet, you will get no sound and it will damage the amp.

3120. Basically everything to love from the discontinued Triple XXX, with what I've heard described as a "JSX clean channel". Buy it from GC and you pay $1000 for the head, and get a free 4x12. After some hourse trading on the free cab, my local GC's Assit. mgr gave me $100 off pedals, and $100 my Egnater 2x12.

Thanks for the input but as always, everyone has a different opinion/suggestion.

There are often 6505's for under $1k on eBay and a few ENGL's just over $1k as well.

I'm definitely eying the ENGL Powerball but I'll keep an eye out for a Framus or Mesa.

Any reason I should pick one over the other? Also what would be a good cab? I don't need something huge.

I checked out the Titan's....custom built? Sounds great. Would that be the way to go in my pricerange?

Ok quick bump before I make a purchase.

These have been the ones that have stood out so far:

Mesa Triple Rectifier
Mesa Stiletto
ENGL Powerball

Any others to add to those? Any reason to pick one over the other?

And finally, I'm looking for a quality cab. It doesn't need to be huge, going to be mostly sitting in my room.

well for a more british sound, i'd go for the stiletto. it has great cleans and high gain. what's your budget on the cab? if you wanna go for value, look at avatar, but if you can afford something more expensive, check out mesa or mills acoustics.

I'd go for the Powerball or Stiletto personally. Never really liked triple rectos compared to these two.

The Stiletto is like a American voiced hotrodded marshall with good cleans

Powerball had more depth and umph than the recto , and was more versatile

Thanks for the added input fellas.

It's been love-at-first-sight with the Powerball so that's definitely what I'm leaning toward now.
Actually, how does the ENGL Fireball compare the the Powerball?

But you say the Peavey JSX?

Psycho - What do you mean by kayman 121 will set me straight? Sorry I'm new here >.<

well if its anything like the 60 watt version i would advise to stay away. I use to have it and that thing couldnt cut itself out of a wet paper bag, I was barely audible in the mix. For 1400 dollars you can do alot better

Price range is now around $2000.

Pretty much sold on the Powerball. I recently read some good things on the Rivera KTRE, how does that compare?

I know it's not a new amp suggestion, but have you tried the 333XL with 6L6 tubes? I thought the same thing when I played the 333XL, and found I was much more satisfied with the 333. Just a thought.

If not, the Powerball and Triple Rectifier would be my suggestions.
