Good question. Not one that has come up in a long time....

Generally, the best way for an amateur to stain a guitar, is to use a search bar.

Careful application of the search bar, can do wonders for any project.

Once you have done that, all you need to do, is put on a few coats of search bar and buff to a shine.

I hope that helps.

Of course, if you can't find any search bar, you could resort to sticky.

The method they use actually isnt staining, there are two ways to do it. First would be to use aniline dyes which is pretty hard to get a smooth look without any blemishes, and your sanding job needs to be nothing less then perfect. The other way to do it would be to glaze coat your body and necks by dying the nitrocell laquer with an NGR (Non grain rasing) stain or other glazing dye. Its pretty complicated to do colors and get a good finish. But theres always the cheaper easier way, buy a pigment stain and rub it on there, although if you want the perfect finish you would see on a PRS it probably didnt come from this method.
