In about a month and a half or so I should be heading out for boot camp and all that jazz. I'm going into the Washington Air National Guard (WANG ololol), because for the position I want to take, they offer a $25,000 signing bonus. Sad though it makes me, I won't be present in the Pit at all for at least 2 months(possibly all the way up to 9 months). But thats not the reason I made this thread. I'm curious as to how hard boot camp really is. I dont know anyone who's been in the military, civilians always just talk about how ****ed up the drill instructors are, while my recruiter just says it'll be an, 'interesting experience'.

So has anyone here served in the military?

rock on for the military! i'm joining the air force pretty soon

The Air Guard doesn't go overseas. Besides, I'm only doing weekend-warrior guard, which means I only go in one weekend a month and work. I'm definitely just doing it for the large signing bonus.

Haha you mean do I get to keep all of the money?

After I finish boot camp I start my technical training and(if I understand it right) that when I get my moneyz

@Jackal, so I shouldn't have a problem with it then?

I'm 5'8", skinny, but have ok cardio

The Chair Force? If you can spin around in an office chair 3 times consecutively without needing dramamine, you've passed

But seriously, it's not the Marines. As long as you're not a fat slob with a congenital spine defect, you'll make it.

You'll do alright. Air Force basic isn't that hard. Hell none of them are anymore.

Ya it's a one time bonus. They do on occasion offer re-enlistment bonuses but I don't know what they are currently doing.

Well you get paid for doing all of the training it takes as well, and if I decided I wanted to do it full time instead of just weekend, it would just turn into a normal paying job.

Does Israel not pay its soldiers to serve?

Although I've put thoughts of doing active duty JAG to the wayside, I'm still considering going for a National Guard position. It's weird, I am probably the least patriotic person in the world, but I still think it's something that would be prestigious.

I go to Lackland for the USAF on Dec. 1st. For those who stereotype the USAF; I enjoy running and exercising.

What job did you get? And when do you go to BMT?

Good luck man. I have many many friends in the IDF and all of them enjoyed their basic training. They say that it's exhaustive, they yell at you, you have to run constantly, but it's fun. You also make very good friends in the training camp.

I don't know if in USA it's the same experience, but how different could it be?

Lackland is where I'll be going because Air Guard boot and AF boot are the same. I still have to get my physical done, but I'm hoping to be going within a month and a half. I chose an Imagery Analysis job. Its an intel job.

Think about the trip to Middle East. Hot, humid, sand everywhere. Is that really something you want to do when you have all of us right here?

I read a military article online that said some National Guard units are getting deployed next year too. So even if you go with the Guard, you wont be totally exempt from active duty

There's a base in Tacoma, WA about 75 miles from where I live. I've always wanted to travel though so once I graduate tech school I'm going to check out what full time Imagery Analysis jobs are open throughout the country.

The papers I were given say its a 120 day sentence at Goodfellow AFB. Its top secret clearance, which I'm kind of worried I wont get. But I tend to worry about stuff like that for no reason.
