Lets be honest people, most Metal music videos are piss-poor, just the band playing their instruments with some disposable little side-concept thrown in for artistic merit.

But good Metal videos do exist. I'll mention a few here but I hope that you guys will have more suggestions. So heres my picks...

Morbid Angel - God of Emptiness
As far as i'm concerned it's pretty much the ultimate metal video. Fits the song perfectly in all it's grimness. Incorporating the performance aspect without taking away from the imagery and general feel of it all. A video that pretty much encapsulates the band and their name.

Celtic Frost - Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh
I guess you could essentially say this is a performance video, but when the performance is delivered in such a way that is truly menacing with the aesthetics to match, it comes off amazingly. Changing the tone of the video with the changes in the song is a great touch too. Added to that Martin looking thoroughly convincing in what you could call a 'lead role', as opposed to a lot of frontmen just trying to act it, really delivers visually.

Meshuggah - Bleed
Crazy. It's part of their name and the video delivers that feel perfectly. No performance here, just plenty of bizarre imagery that could only seem to come from the most demented/active of imaginations. All enhanced by the sparse use of strobe lighting and effective camerawork.

Paradise Lost - Forever Failure
According to an old reg that goes by the name 'Spynal', this song is pretty much the most depressing ever. And I don't disagree, it's a downer of a song that frankly would have suffered had it been given a bad video (See: Down in a Hole). But fortunately it wasn't. PL aren't exactly masters of the art that is the music video, but this was an all around brilliant video, enhanced by the Charles Manson commentaries and added symphonics. The moment at around the 3:50 mark and the build up to it always seems to hit me particlarly hard. Nick Holmes and the lads at their very best.

There is a couple more vids worth a mention, The Unforgiven, while not on Metallica's best album, is a gem of a song and video (Although I imagine most would say One is a superior video, i'd disagree). Not Unlike the Waves by Agalloch had the right idea with the imagery, but just no real direction and rather sloppy camerawork going against it. And while not Metal, the new Alice in Chains video is pretty bitchin'. Plus, you gotta love the gratuitous nudity...

So there we go, feel free to tell me i'm talking out of my arse or alternativly insert your e-tongue into my e-arse. Either way discuss and hopefully recommend some good vids.

ANY video Mastodon has done (save "Iron Tusk" and "Capillarian Crest", since it wasn't all that great).

"Blood and Thunder" and "Oblivion" are just amazing, especially the latter. It's so clever, and a GREAT throwback to the classic sci-fi space movies.

Hopefully none, as this isn't the Pit, and by the way: TS means Thread Starter

I think that the Paradise Lost is extremely Metallica - influenced, which downs it a bit for me, but Bleed is amazing of course, and God of Emptiness, well, it's God of emptiness.

Awesome pick with God of Emptiness.

The only video that comes to mind is Amorphis - Black Winter Day

It's really dark, and moody, just like the song..suits is absolutely.

Maybe not tr00 metal, but I think Tool have some amazing videos.

Also, if you go to any sort of art student exhibition then 99% of the videos will probably be based around Tool songs, and some of them are pretty damn good.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

Im surprised Mirror Mirror by BG hasn't been posted yet..They throw snowballs really awkward..and it looks like Hansi has attitude when he's speaking down on that mic.

Off the top of my head, the video for Animosity's toothgrinder is really the only memorable metal video that I've seen, but then i dont take alot of time to watch many either. Definitely not the typical brutal music video , they seem like a fun group of guys to have a beer with

Not really a metal band (though I would consider this particular song metal), but Dir En Gray's video for "Agitated Screams of Maggots" is definitly something special: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8nRTkK1zCE

But Sotajumala's "Oikeutus (Justification)" would have to be one of the most awesome campy/ brutal/ "FOOKIN' MEEHUTHL" video I've ever seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8nRTkK1zCE

The video just defines metal for me. Especially the ending and at 3:30 where the guy's just like "I'm alright... I'm alright... *gets rekidnapped by scary Finnish man*"

Amazing. That's truly wonderful, both the song and the video. I've never listened to Paradise Lost before, that's a brilliant start.

^Its probably my pick of their songs.

Thats actually the remixed single on the vid, the original didn't have the symphonic backing. Which is a shame, because it enhances the song that much more.

If you like that, Jaded off he same album is also a quality cut.
