I use a Boss DS-1, on a small amp. I leave the overdrive on the amp when I use the pedal because otherwise it only sounds crunchy, it sounds badass with overdrive and distortion. But I have this annoying screeching noise whenever I'm not playing something on the bottom 2 strings - It's annoying. If I turn the tone up on the pedal, it gets worse. I'm not close to the amp, any ideas?

maybe there is just too much gain? I know if i put my amp's lead section on and boost it with an overdrive/distortion too much it'll just go nuts.

That was incredibly helpful.

When you combine an od and a distortion like that, the gain is too br00tal for the amp to handle, so it yells in pain. This yelling is called feedback.

Just back off the distortion, if that does nothing make sure your not using a really long cable if the pedal is only a few feet away from the amp.

There's been an awful lot of threads involving DS-1s lately. It's better than the usual Spider or MG threads though.

It's the fact that your using a distortion pedal on the already distorted channel of the amp, use the DS-1 on the clean channel, if you don't like, you should have gotten another pedal or get a new amp

Oh. Don't worry, there's bound to be someone else named Alf on UG. You'd probably have to look around a bit though. By the way, nice catch on the '05 thread. I ROFL'd when I saw the date after I posted.
