I have 4 springs in my Lo-Pro and the bridge is still high even with the screws almost all the way in the guitar. I use .10s so shouldn't 3 springs be enough? I don't know how old the springs are but I'm guessing pretty old since I got the guitar from someone else and it's an old RG550. Should I go replace the springs or what?

the springs should be ok. It could never hurt to change them though.
I have 5 springs on my 7string rg with a loTRS7 bridge and its amazingly easy to tune and deal with, just that its kind of a bitch to use the bar. Does the bridge have spaces for 4 springs?

Yeah, it has 5 space total and the guitar came with 4 springs when I got it. The bar is kinda hard to use right now. I just wanted to use the bar easier while the bridge is at an even angle.

you could try angling the 3 springs if you didn't already. I always had a hell of a time trying to set up my 6string rg. it's currently out of tune so maybe i'm not the guy to get advice from.

I tried angling the 3 springs and it didn't work out. It might be different if I get new springs. Idk.

Haha thanks. Yeah, the 550 rips and the yellow compliments it nicely!

When you say the bridge is high, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean the angle from the guitars top/the pivot to the end of the bridge is larger than usual? Or do you mean that the whole bridge is high off the guitar? If its the latter its a matter of adjsting the action on the bridge rather than springs...

I mean the angle is too high. I can't get it at a good angle. It's always too high and I have 4 springs with .10s.

All you need to is screw the trem claw into the body more. This will pull the bridge closer to the body. You could probably take a spring out if you want that looser feel.

Oh, and when screwing the trem claw in further do small adjustments equally on each screw. If you screw one in too much without screwing the other, all the tension will go on that one screw. I did that on my old RG and the screw ripped out of the soft basswood

EDIT:

Here's the trem claw, if you didn't know what is was. You don't have to remove the springs by the way (this is just a photo pre spring installation).

you should try to find some springs with more pull to them. i'm not 100% sure but i think the black trem springs are stronger..

Oh and how would a black coating make springs stronger? And surely there are many different makes of black spring. They can't all be uniformly stiffer?

Having the screws pretty much all the way in the body wouldn't hurt it?

I tried doing that and the screws are all the way in the body but the angle is still high. I think I might just take it to GC. Don't know if they can fix it or not though.

I'm trying to get it this low with 3 springs because it feels better for me. You can see the 4 springs are on there and the screws are all the way in so doing it with 3 springs would be difficult i think

well probably not all black springs, and its not a coating thing that makes it stronger, i'm pretty sure they just make them black so its easy to tell if they have more pull then the others, but it probably depends on the maker of the springs, i just know thats how it is with the ones i've come into contact with..

TS, its made to look like its at more of an angle then a floyd, on either sides of the saddles that piece is angled and shouldnt be level with the body. if thats what you mean...

The bridge looks fine to me..
It even looks like you'd be able to remove at least one screw, what exactly is the problem?
