this guy wants to trade his mesa stilleto duece (stage 1) for my orange rocker 30. It seems like a pretty good trade, but I'm really not sure if the stilleto's what I want.

I want an amp that can get considerably heavy (not modern day metal, but can pack a punch and has a somewhat tight low-end), but can also have that singing lead quality.

I know the amp has a great clean channel, but can someone inform me more about the amp?

keep in mind that it's stage 1.

I've only tried the Stage II. It's a great amp but supposedly the Stage I sounds more like a Recto and is a bit looser and not as fluid.

Being that I love Mesa's. I say do it.
If you start a reply with: I have never played one but I have heard good things about it! Your opinion is invalid.

can someone actually answer my question, please? :[

and i'm starting fear that this amp will be just like my rocker 30

Hey Jin you're alive

The stiletto stage one i played was a very nice amp. It sounded like a hot rodded jcm800 with American voicing. A good cab or an OD can tighten up any flabby ness.

80's metal yes

t3h br00talz not really.

An od just usually helps alot of high gain mesas since it tightens up any flabbyness and adds some mids to the mix. thats why usually the ts-9 or any variant on that are such popular with rectos and stuff.

I got some pretty good stoner metal tones (Sleep, Kyuss, etc.) out of the Stiletto in addition to more 90s alt-rock/grunge tones (Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine), so it can do some decently heavy stuff, and that was with a P-90 equipped SG (down-tuned for the stoner tunes, of crouse). I'd imagine with some humbuckers the stiletto can get pretty heavy. It also has a really nice lead tone; Andy Timmons uses one for his higher gain tones.
