I have 3 weeks of free time so I've decided to make a list of the most important or "best" movies of all time to watch. I'm thinking of a list of around 20 movies...anyone has any suggestions, specially of movies that aren't too mainstream and aren't probably on many "Top Movies" lists?

So far I just have movies that a lot of people told me that are good but I haven't seen:

-Modern Times
-The Elephant Man
-2001: A spacy Odyssey
-Pi
-Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Yes, I haven't seen them yet)
-Citizen Kane

EDIT: Here are the movies suggested so far that I haven't seen yet...Thanks!

Saving Private Ryan
Powder
Shawshank Redemption
Windtalkers
Boondock Saints
The Good The Bad and the ugly
Star Wars Movies
The Professional
Half Baked
Almost Famous
Carlito's Way
Blow
Confessions of a superhero
Being John Malcovitch
Silence of the Lambs
"There's Jimmy Page, the greatest thief of American black music who ever walked the earth."
-Homer Simpson

Not enough people have seen "The Professional" ... such a damn good movie. Natalie Portman's first movie, I think she was about 12 years old, and she was extremely good in it. Seriously, watch it.

I hate to sound like a literary elitist, but the book is so good that it makes the movie unwatchable.

I think there's a lot of quality cinema listed here, but you'll have to clarify if you want good cinema as qualified by its cinematographic/literary merit, or entertainment value! I mean, Die Hard is a ****ing awesome flick, but it's not going to make any AFI lists.
