This is a possibly stupid question so,

Is it possible to run a 120 watt head into a 75watt cabinet?
Like, do the ohms just need to match up or do the watts on the cabinet need to be higher than the head?

Is there any possible way to make it work?

something will probably blow up I wouldnt risk it
i use a 5 watt head on a 80 watt cab

It's best if the cabs wattage is higher than the head, but unless you output more than 75watts you should be fine.
I run my JCM 900 on 50watts into a 140watt cab, and I've dimed it, which outputs at least 140watts true power, and it was fine.

If it's solid state it'll matter less, but valve amps put out their rating before distortion, so you wouldn't be able to go for any power tube distortion with that cab if it's valve.

Alright, thanks.

I would rather not have any explosions, not with my amp at least.

And to Jesstaa^^^^

It is valve, so thanks.

Well, it'd be safe at bedroom levels, it should be sufficient until you get a better cab.

Here... i asked a practically identical question a week back.

Assuming that the impedance match up, at some point you'll start getting speaker distortion, but it should work fine.

Thanks for all the replies.

All should be good then. I probably won't even be getting the head for a while though.
