hey not sure if this is the right forum, but i'm looking at converting a song or a few from rock sorta stuff into ska, but i dont really know many ska chords (i mean ones that are a shape that can be moved around, not just played in the one place), only the F shape and the D shape. Any other common ones? thanks

Apart from regular barre chords, you can use triad inversions on the higher strings to fill out the sound:

Major
|---|-x-|---|
|---|---|-o-|
|---|-x-|---|
|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|
|---|-o-|---|
|-x-|---|---|
|---|---|-x-|

|---|-x-|---|
|---|-o-|---|
|---|-x-|---|

|-x-|---|---|
|---|---|-x-|
|---|---|-o-|
|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|-o-|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|-o-|
|---|---|---|-x-|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|

|-o-|---|---|
|-x-|---|---|
|---|-x-|---|
|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|

Minor
|-x-|---|---|
|---|---|-o-|
|---|-x-|---|
|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|
|---|-o-|---|
|-x-|---|---|
|---|-x-|---|

|-x-|---|---|
|---|-x-|---|
|---|---|-o-|
|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|-o-|
|---|---|---|-x-|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|

|---|---|---|-x-|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|-x-|---|---|---|
|---|---|(o)|---|
|---|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|---|

|---|-o-|---|
|---|-x-|---|

Here, the root is the "o".

Use your index to barre the strings then form a C shape chord with your remaining fingers, the root note is the one you hold with your pinky finger, you can use Am shape for minor chords and A major shape for major chords using the same logic, barre all of the strings with the index and use remaining fingers to form chord shapes.
