So in one month I am going to a university in Amsterdam.
It is 250-300km from here,
and I haven't found a place to live in
Because there is some stupid hole in the system here I don't recieve money the first two months, nor a publictransportcard,
so everything has to be payed by my parents.
WTH should I do?
If I don't find anything I have to travel 6 hours a day
which I would do, but it would just suck
anyone else been in the same situation?
What should I do?

unemployment money? get a loan from the bank until the money comes?

EDIT: I had the same problem once and had to get unemployment money, I'm sure you could try the same. if that fails, the bank can help out.

also, if you need a place to live, ask the university for help. they can hook you up with dorms, student housing, or even pensions that rent out rooms for cheap.

Hey man, that does suck. My suggestions;

1. Do you know anyone else going to this uni? If so can you live with them...
2. Contact the uni see if they have anywhere or know of anywhere you can live
3. Check to see if there's a website which people list vacancies in their houses nearby (I know some exist)
4. Keep looking for your own flat or whatever
5. Uhm I'm all out I think.

Don't let your boat be empty, don't be a sunken dream
Don't let the boat regret thee, for what you could have seen

money isn't really the problem,
the travelling is.
My parents are willing to pay.
But going to school for 8-10 hours, and then travelling for 6, count in eating and sleeping and that is how my life looks like.

I don't even know if a train leaves at 5.30 in the morning

so the only problem is finding a place to live? I cant believe you cant find an apartment in Amsterdam. you still have a whole month, and then once you get a place you can eventually move all of your stuff.

1. no
2. I did, I have been enlisted for a year. But for some reason other people who live closer always get chosen for a room
3 and 4, I am trying

8 hours travel? Find a place close to the Uni man!
The will be heartache,
there will be rain,
and joy I can't explain.
#9
Aren't there any student homes you can go in cheap and fast?
I though they have to give you atleast something because you live so far away..?
And the loophole is it because you're not 18 yet? I will have that too next year and I'm going to the other side of the country (Maastricht-Groningen)

Amsterdam is full
that's the problem
There are thousands of students looking for a place there

alternatively, you could sleep in a car. I did that for a couple of days before I found an apartment.

okay, well I had the exact same problem last year when I moved to berlin.
here's what you do, you drive to amsterdam and live in your car until you find an apartment. take anything, anywhere. you'll find one, give it about 1 to 2 weeks (hard ****, I know, but it's the only way in cities like Berlin and Amsterdam)
EDIT: if you dont have a car, sleep in a hostel or under a bridge (I'm dead serious, it's summer, so it's not that cold at night)

with my books and laptop.
I will be smelly as hell.
Amsterdam is not the cleanest place on earth ye know

edit: a cheap hostel would be a possibility, as I only need to sleep in one for 4 nights a week (so 16-20 days a month)

Btw I was just curious:
Voorrang als je ver weg woont
De UvA Kameractie is een voorrangsregeling voor eerstejaarsstudenten van de UvA die ver buiten Amsterdam wonen en zich voor 1 mei hebben aangemeld. Meer informatie vind je via de onderstaande verwijzing.

I know a couple of people there. How old are you and where exactly do you live as of now? Ow, en ik weet niet hoe je dit in het engels zegt maar sta je al ingeschreven bij een gemeentelijk of studentenhuisvestingbureau?

Of course you don't HAVE to stay in Amsterdam. I'm gonna study there too but I also kept looking for places in Utrecht and that's where I found a room (with a couple of friends that is, it's slightly easier to find a place if you're looking for small apartments rather than a room for a single person.

I am already in it
(I am in the VU actually)

I am looking into anti-squat (?????) places now.

To the person above: yes I will look into other places too. But I don't think that I can find anything within a month

why in the world do you need to take books and laptop? I'm talking about when you're looking for an apartment. take 2 weeks to look, hop on a train to amsterdam and buy the newspaper everyday, go to real estate agents who specialise in apartments and just basically try everything to find a place, it's the only way. apartments in big, crowded cities disappear in a matter of days or even hours in the summer

Stay with your parents and do the travelling thing, but ditch a few lectures to go look for flats

because I am going there to study?
I can't show up without books etc.
What would be the point of that?
Then I would just be a bum for no reason

I think he's saying that you should go for 2 weeks now before term starts. so you don't need books/laptop and you can just concentrate on finding an apartment and nothing else all day lol.

I think you misunderstood, he's talking about before you head to university, you stay in amsterdam to hunt for an apartment until you get one.. then return home with a big fat grin on your face, smelling like crap, but you've got an apartment... then you move there just before uni begins and you're sorted.

2 weeks, my parents spent thousands of euro's on it and say: you go to greece .
But I will go to amsterdam next week again I guess...
this week I will try to search the internet for every option and every city around it.

edit: how can you find an apartment?
I am kinda limited to the studentflats and I am already signed up for those

edit 2: train leaves from 5:10 and on here. So public transport is apossibility. Cost as much as an apartment though seeing as I have to go back in the weekends, it is actually cheaper the first 2 months
