as in the name of Futurama and simpsons creator, Matt Groening?

I, as a german, pronounce it as Gröning, with the Ö being prononced kind of like someone trying to say "eeeeee" with their lips perked.

this is really annoying me, how do people pronounce this?

Probably like, "groaning."

Not sure, though.

EDIT: graining.

I used to think it was "Groaning", but he pronounces it "Grayning".

'Grayning'

The only way I've ever heard it pronounced. (on national television)

I've heard it pronounced "groaning", which kind of makes sense if you pronounce it in an anglicised way.

I mean, Dave Weiner's last name should be pronounced something like "whiner", if it were tr00 G3rMaN, but he chooses to be synonymous with hotdogs and penises.

I heard it on the simpsons pronounced both as gray-ning and as Grow-ning

it was the episode "My big fat geek wedding", btw.

Gray-ning.

If you have any of the season DVDs, listen to the episode commentaries. That's how he introduces himself each time he's in one.

yeah, as a 2 year German student, this really bugs me too, and if I didn't know how he pronouced his name, I'd pronounce it the same way you do.

I think he pronounces it "Gray-ning" or "Groi-ning"
