I'm thinking of saving up for a dual rec but just the head since I have a 1960 fullstack. Will the dual rec sound good through them? Or should I waste a few more paychecks and grab a mesa cab too?

if you like the cab over others, then it should sound fine, its a preference type thing.
may not be as huge and warm as a mesa recto cab, but i think the mesa amp is bold enough
the cab will help to even out the dual rec. i'm not sure what model cab you have, but V30 or greenbacks sound great with a rectifier..

well try out the dual rec with your cab, and with teh matching cab.
mesa's have sensitive eq, so i wouldn't worry about it unless you LOVE the sound of the recto cab. marshall cabs have great tone, so theres no quality loss, its more of a tone preference.
both are high grade, expensive, celestion loaded cabs.

sounds good.
a marshall cab will sound like marshall, vintage, raw, mid bump.
a mesa cab will sound like mesa, thick, deep, and scooped.
so the 2 should blend very nicely, you're tone structure will be a very desired sound,
and the cab will replicate it with enough midrange to cut through.
i've seen many marshall users play through mesa cabs, so its the same blend just
vice versa.

The cab is just wood, bro. It all depends on the speakers (not counting the identical dimensions).
My band's guitarist just used that combination of Dual Rec and 1960A at a gig this weekend and it sounded great! Cuts through the mix like a knife and sounds wonderful.

the wood has a lot of impact on your overall sound actually. cheaper would wont be as tightly made and wel sealed, so if you want a totally sealed cab you want to use high grade plywood as did i when i built mine.

as for the mesa and marshall cab, i've always wanted to try it, i'd imagine it sounds kickass.

Wrong.
Mesa cabs are full of mids, while the 1960 cabs are mid scooped.

I hope you're kidding, they're the exact same cab. Birch ply, MDF back, G12T-75 speakers in most JCM800 lead cabinets. Same as the modern day 1960A/B

No it doesn't. The wood does matter.
