I'm finding it difficult to play 3nps scales, and sus2 fifths (IE G,D,A on the top three strings) closer to the headstock without getting wrist pains. What can I do to eliminate this pain and still play?

Raise your strap is the quick answer.

This will most likely fix you. A lot of people are afraid to wear it very high because they'll look weird, but you have to get pretty high before you actually look silly. Raise it an inch or two. Or, try tilting the guitar a different way. I even use my belt buckle to hold it at certain angles to make tapping more comfortable. Now explain "acoustic banana".
