Just out of curiosity, does anybody know the rough amp settings of Highway Star's (Deep Purple) solo?
I know I spelt it wrong.

No. But he is right. The settings of the amp will do very, very little to give you Ritchie's tone - you'd neep an amp like his, a guitar like his, pedals like his, and most of all, fingers like his. By and large, when trying for someone else's tone, knowing what they had their knobs turned to is pretty trivial information. Also, IIRC, a fair bit of what is often believed to be "guitar solo" in that song is actually "organ solo."

But... if I needed to get that tone - I would set the bass and treble at about 70%, with the mids at 40%. Then I'd play on the neck pickup and roll back on the tone knob.

Just a guess.

Do you want the album version?
one of the live versions with Blackmore?
or one of the live versions with Steve Morse?
