So for some times i've been wanting a les paul guitar, and i figured I was going to buy an agile or a cheap epiphone in order to work on it and fix it up and something to practice my work on. So i went to my local guitar store yesterday to see if I could find something. And to my surprise I did. I ran into this baby. Its a gibson les paul copy, the story behind it was the guy who used to own them (there were 3) died and his family took those to the store in order to get rid of them. I dont really know what the guitars originally were but he changed the headstocks around in order to make them seem like real gibson, and painted on the gibson and les paul model. He did a pretty good job on this one, its barely noticeable.

So I played it out at the store and was very impressed, the neck was quite slim and the weight distribution was amazing. Even better was that the dude had put grover tuners on it, and upgraded the pickups form w/e crappy stock ones they were to oldschool epiphones, these have a really sweet sound, much higher output than the ones on my tokai!! So I was really intrigued as to how much it was, so I asked the owner and he said 100 even. I almost crapped myself when he said that, so I played it a bit more and eventually decided to go home with it. At first I was kinda skeptical because I've had impulse buys before and at times regretted it, but I bought it. So when I got home I tried it out again and was very pleased with my buy.

I spent yesterday and today working on it, and it didnt really need much, a bit of a clean up, and a set up and a change of strings and its working amazingly. For $100 I feel very happy and also I have that feeling like I ripped someone off or something. Anyways without wasting more time, here is the porn.

LOL well right now I dont think I'm going to do anything to it, because its amazing the way it is. Maybe i'll end up swapping the pickups to some EMGs, and then maybe end up changing the knobs to gold ones. If i do get really bored then i'll change the colour, but man I think its already awesome the way it is.

get a truss rod cover to make it look finsihed.

That I shall, its about the only thing I need to buy for it. But really, I was amazing at what the guy did with the headstock, this one was the best out of the 3.

Very nice copy, it's so thick, it must weigh twelve pounds at least. With silver hardware and a truss-rod cover it'd be a really convincing fake. Just a heads-up though, if you don't sand off the Gibson name that thing's illegal to even own.

When people say "HNGD!" I just read it as a grunting sound. Like you're lifting something really freaking heavy.

This is incorrect and I wish people would stop passing it off as true and spreading misinformation.

It is only ILLEGAL to attempt to pass it off as a real Gibson for the purposes of sale or profit. However, it is entirely legal to sell it as a "knock off" or "rip off" copy when the buyer is entirely made aware that it is, in fact, not a real Gibson. Furthermore, if he is not going to resale it, it is NOT illegal to own, simply illegal to resale under the pretense that it might be the real deal.

The horn on the cut away is not sharp enough. I noticed this before reading the info.

thanks for the comments everyone, and about the sanding it off, no im not going to do that, because like someone already said, its illegal to try to sell it passing it as a real gibson, if you own it its fine. It's like all those cheap chinese apple ipod touch copies, they look exactly the same and some are even superior, and owning them is not illegal.

But other than that, yea man I got really lucky with this guitar, the weight isnt that bad with a good strap, I actually enjoy it a lot, like the condition its in is unbelievable. And the neck is the best part, its so slim like its not a chunky neck les paul, its a slim necked one and plays wonderful like my hands fit right around it with ease.

This is true, if you pass a fake off as the real deal you are getting yourself into a whole world of legality issues.

And not a bad project guitar to have. HNGD.

However close it looks to the untrained eye, it still is not a Gibson. It lacks Gibson parts, and uses lesser wood. You will always know it's a fake.
