Hey UG,

So I have an Epiphone Les Paul custom, prophecy series. I love it, but there's one problem. I put straplocks on it, but after using it a lot, the hole got bigger.

Problem: Hole > screw, so it falls out once every 30 minutes or so.

I have a gig in February 2010, so it's not really urgent, but I'd like to know what to do.

I heard some people say 'fill the hole with glue' but well, I don't want to ruin my guitar.

Cheers.

there are a number of options...

Bigger screw.

Fill the hole with toothpicks and wood glue.

Fill the hole with sawdust and wood glue.

Drill the hole out just big enough to squeeze a small wooden dowel in... add glue, insert dowel

How did the screw hole get bigger?

What kind of strap locks were you using?

I had this exact same problem and what I did was take this.. It's almost fake wood, you mike two compounds together and it makes a puddy, and you fill in the hole, and when it tries it's just like wood, so you can either do that then put the screw in, or do it overkill like I did and stick the screw in when it was still wet so the screw almost is part of the wood now. =P

1) It just did, I played a lot and I suppose the screw moved a bit and made the hole bigger after a while.

2) I think they're by Jim Dunlop, but I got them a year ago so can't remember.
