Right now I have a Mesa rectoverb combo which is almost perfect. The only problem is that it only has two channels.

I'd like an amp that has more of a brit/classic rock tone that has at least three channels. The marshall JMP-1 seems perfect: it has up to 99 presets, four basic marshall amp tones, and it's not too expensive. Are there any other amps or preamps that would be a better choice?

I'd like to keep it under $500 and I will definitely go used.

Initially I would use my rectoverb as a power amp.

The rest is in the first post:

i'd definitely recommend a JMP-1 if you are okay with having a rack facility. deftones uses one, i believe, and athough his tone is a teensy bit fuzzy and high for my taste, it's still very nice, and should compliment the dark, thick bass of a mesa very well.

you could also look into a line 6 flextone III.

The amount of channels being the main criteria seems a little silly to me. It';s not exactly hard to add extra 'channels' with an overdrive/boost pedal or two.

Ignoring the amount of channels, a Ceriatone Silver Jubilee clone would be perfect.

I'm kinda confused about your 3 channels, just buy an A/B/Y pedal and a nice single channel amp that does the British stuff

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Yeah I guess that's another option. The thing about having 3 channels would be important if I bought a preamp because I couldn't use that and the Mesa at the same time. (If that makes any sense.)

Did you list those amps because they are better than the JMP-1 or because they are heads/combos?

Edit: What about a Carvin V3 or X100B?
