hey guys, i am thinking of getting a new amp! I play a fender custom classic and my current amp is a crate gx 30m that i found for 30 pounds in a charity shop! the guitar plays like a dream but im not getting the sound i want from it.

im currently contemplating a vox valvetronic-50 any thoughts?
cheers!

budget?
styles?
used?

The Vox is ok, you could do better for the money.

-Gibson LP VM
-Silvertone Kentucky Blue
-MXR CC Delay
-Ibanez TS-9
-Egnater Rebel 20
-Avatar 1x12

Haha. UG's Chuck just said chuck. haha

i play mostly brit rock/britpop and indie stuff too. Also some classic rock too.
budget is anywhere up to and around the vox- $400 or so

Are you willing to go used?
If so, a used Peavey Classic 30 would be perfect for you. Definitely better than the valvetronix. Its a great British voiced amp. Perfect for your purposes. They can go for ~$300 on Craigslist. Whats your nearest major city?

i live in london so im only a train ride from denmark st and loads of guitar shops.

looking at the peavey now seems very good! but how versatile is it? i mean versatility is not at the top of my list but i would like a reasonably wide range of tones.which is why i was thinking of that specific vox.
but you're not a fan?

Wait.... just checking- Is the $400 in USD? Pounds? Euros? It makes a difference.
The Classic 30 is pretty versitile. You might need an OD for heavier sounds. Its British voiced, basically a poor mans AC30. So think Vox AC30 cleans and a British-type overdrive
What brands do your local guitar stores carry?

The valvetronic is ok, but imo the Classic 30 is better for your styles.

edit- try to get this-

i reckon i can push £300 GBP but thats a maximum.
yeah i've got a boss overdrive/dstortion pedal which i'll use and a electro harmonix memory man.
