I was planning on getting a Bugera 6260 head but that thing is just way to bloody loud compared to many other tube amps.

So i'm stuck at what to get for under <1000$ AUD head or combo, i will be gigging & wanting it to last!

I play hardcore punk & metal/metalcore.

So i'm looking for a hi-gain, tight punch, low end beast... if that's possible with my budget.

Thanks!

What guitar will you be using through it? And can you go used? What size gigs will you play?

why don't you just turn it down when its too loud. i wish i had the problem of having a amp that can go TOO loud. seems like a good thing for the type of band your in.

You may want to look for something around 40 or 50 watts, that will be plenty loud. With that guitar, you will be able to get metal tones well. If you can find a used Engl Thunder, that would be really good, or maybe a used Peavey 6505 combo.

Crap, I forgot you're in Australia. I could find one here in the USA easily for that price. I dunno if I could help you out then.

I actually was looking for an amp like that myself, and was looking at the 60 watt 6505 combo. It's less than $700 USD, you think you could get one in AU for a decent price?

BTW, not to hijack the thread, but how are the 6505's cleans? I've heard very mixed reviews about it
#11
they'reabout $2000 lol.

The cleans on the 6505 are iffy. If you can dial them in right, you can get usable cleans, but they're no Fender.

Hmm. Do you think that they're decent enough to pull off Metallica cleans, given that the 60w has built in reverb?

Yeah, you should be fine for Metallica. The cleans aren't bad, just not as good as other tube amps for that price.
