Hello Pit Monkeys.
I am fully aware that Green Day is NOT Irish (They are from the Bay Area of San Francisco) . My brother is also aware of this. However, for whatever demented reason, he believes that Green Day is Irish or has connections to Ireland. He even interpreted Lisa's Irish love interest in The Simpson's Movie to be Billie Joe Armstrong's son (I believe this has something to do with the band's appearance playing the Simpson's theme song in the movie). He also believes that Billie Joe attempts to infuse his singing with an Irish-sounding accent.

Does anyone else share my brothers suspicions or know any information that could support him, or is he the only one in the world that believes this.

Thanks Pit.

And please close this thread if you think it belongs in the Bands and Artists forum.

Lisa's love interest was obviously Bob Geldof's not existing son.

This "Colin" was apparently voiced by a woman.

Also, I was listening to Nimrod earlier. Screw what people here think, it's an awesome pop rock album.

They can be whatever the hell they want to be. Their music still sucks.

Tell your brother that UG says that Green Day aren't Irish.
And if he disagrees, I dare him to come here and confront us about it:

FEAR THE WRATH OF UG!!
I hope it doesn't seem, like I'm young, foolish, and green.
Let me in for a minute, you're not my life but I want you in it

first of all, I enjoy Green Day, no matter how terribly the lyrics to American Idiot

second of all, you can almost hear a bit of Celtic in his voice, his accent has almost an infusion of whine and Celt. You can also kinda hear it in the instrumentation, especially Good Riddance.

So no, they are not, and don't fully sound Irish, but it's understandable where he got the idea.

seeing them live doesn't make their music sound any better, it just means they're entertaining simple as that.

If you've heard him talk during one of the live videos for 21st century breakdown he has a pretty thick irish accent. Not bono thick but its there.

1st, I like Green Day, old and new.

2nd, they did their "kiss me I'm punk" thing, as an obvious Irish parody complete with shamrock and everything.

aaaaand I'm Irish! (by ancestry). So I'm biased!

Nah, it derives from smoking lots of weed all day.

Nevertheless, Green Day are awesome.

Punk basically originated in that region. Fast paced music.

Everyone saying Green Day sucks, GTFO you bandwagon-ers. Half the population hate them because its "cool" to do so. They make great catchy music, go listen to nimord. AMAZING album. And American Idiot was too, a cool story.

Oh, and 21st Century Breakdown (the song) is very Celtic-ish. Its also an amazing album.

Everybody who thinks Green day sound celtic or Irish,

Go listen to the Dubliners for a couple hours.
