List everything you know of, and examples if you can find any. (Off the top of my head) anything from the use of killswitches, scalloped frets, even showmanship type stuff like guitar spins. Tell me all the weird and wonderful things.

I'll make a list here.

Off the top of my head examples. If you think they're lame, contribrute ones that you personally think are awesome simple

Lol, would love to see an example of the the poster above me said

scalloped frets allow for faster playing and crazy vibrato then can be used in ANY genre, and how are guitar spins avant garde or have anything to do with the music? and how are saosin experimental or avant garde?

I'm being quite vague in the descriptions, I just want a big list of anything to do with the guitar completely out of the ordinary. (Not necessarily music, the 'avante-garde was referring to that, and I'd consider buckethead a good example of it)

Let's not play silly buggers with terminology, I'll change it if you like. If you get the gist of what I'm asking, go ahead and tell me some stuff.

yeah, maybe you should label them as "guitar ticks" solely. maybe they are thinking avante-garde/experimental as a musical style.

on the topic, look for prepared guitars. for techniques maybe listen to tom morello, bret garsed, fusion players, etc.

as for showmanship you can always refer to KISS shows.

just stumbled onto this, i know its an old forum but felt like contributing. play a pinch harmonic, then add vibrato by diving with the whammy bar, gives you that sort of horse-like squeal. a bit cliched, but always makes you sound immensely talented to the untrained ear. unless, of course, you dont have a floyd rose bridge, then i have wasted both of our time. i share your pain.
