i'd advise to stay away from the digitech death metal. it's got a pretty unpleasent tone imo.

As far as distortion pedals go, the only good ones are rather expensive, and even so, I'd recommend getting a tube amp (if you haven't already got one) and top it off with an overdrive pedal.

Digitech Hardwire TL-2 is good for high gain.

MXR Dist. III is cheap, and versatile.

For a tube boost get an MXR boost or the Ibanez TS9.

If you have a SS, MXR Metal Muff or for awesome leads the Vox Satchunator.
