I use Ableton, I have a jack I can plug my guitar straight into my laptop with, cuts out any fuzz or whatever.

egh, you twit

Is it so hard to believe I don't record myself playing guitar, and don't really give a sh*t if I ever do?

A tiny video camera hidden on the shelf above my bed.

But seriously, an Apogee Duet and Logic Studio.

i beat all of you in bad recording equipment:
I use my iRiver (iPod knockoff), which has a recorder in it. pretty much a tiny microphone with the worst quality.
I then try to make it sound cleaner using a trial version of WavePad sound editor.
So there.

No, it's that you posted about TV recording in a audio track recording thread

The thread title doesn't specify WHAT is being recorded.

What you want with recording software, IMO, is flexibility, high quality capture and great effects, so

the obvious choice

I haven't actually made any full productions yet with my current setup, but it will be:

E-MU0404 audio interface -> MacBook Pro -> Logic Pro running Guitar Rig 3, Akoustik Piano, iZotope Ozone 4 -> Roland Cube CM30 monitors.

...modes and scales are still useless.

Isn't Guitar Rig so awesome?

I love it. I don't think I'm gonna be recording with a mic for a long time....

I haven't even touched my amp in half a year since I got GR3.

People say it's crap for metal, but I play jazz/clean stuff and it's perfect.

Software: Protools 8, ungodly number of plug-ins. Toast for making CDs.

Hardware: Instruments, AKG C3000, AKG C4000, Shure SM 57, Shure SM 58, AKG D112, AKG C1000, DI, Eurodesk, Digital/Analog converter, cans for returns. And a whole lot of other stuff.

I have the fortune of studying audio engineering at a high school with a professional quality recording studio. Not to mention the benefit of getting to use it for free when it's available.
